I'm not saying he's lying. I'm saying in football, not every comment and soundbite is as it seems. How many times have you head a manager say "player X won't be fit for the next game", only for said player to start? Or a chairman say a manager's job is safe only for them to be sacked a few days later?
Although it's joked about here - the role of Hecky obviously comes into this debate. If Chien Lee is seriously considering purchasing the club and hasn't contacted Hecky regarding the squad and giving him assurances about his role at the club then clearly Chien Lee dosent fully understand the potential ups and downs of Championship football. Alternatively: He hasn't contacted Hecky because he cannot see a role for Hecky at the club. Now if I was Hecky - and we assume he is telling the truth about there being no talks yet with the potential new owners - then the alarm bells will be ringing no matter which of those options he looks at. Sunderland and the like are circling.
Suppose we will have a clearer understanding of where he sees his role if Sunderland do actually make an approach for him(and is accepted)...
Alternatively, Negotiations are still ongoing, Hecky's future has been discussed and relayed back to him through the CEO. It's not a case of it's minutes away from completion or it's not happening at all. There is a possible middle ground.
I don't know why you try and be so black and white with this. It's never been said that this is even close to completion. We just know that talks are ongoing. Would you seriously invest money into something that you have no stake in or no attachment to? If so, I have some magic beans to sell you. As I said earlier, in business nothing is a certainty until the ink is dry.
The ink on the contract. It’s a very well known phrase Also: it hasn’t dragged on at all - these things take time.
Let's hope the takeover is completed this week and Hecky is comfortable with the plans the new owners have for the future.
Obviously football isn't like a normal business and can fluctuate quickly. I've already said - yes I would spend to reduce the risks if the deal had been agreed in principle and the contracts were just been looked over by the solicitors. That's why I don't think it has been agreed in principle. And remember - a couple of million for Chien Lee to invest in August (when transfer window was open) is like a few hundred quid for the rest of us.
Yes I am aware of that phrase .. lol It has dragged on ... It's gone on for over 5 months to what I know ...
I don't know if anyone's mentioned it, but we're the 4th club Chien Lee has talked to. I've no idea how far things progressed with the other three clubs, but I would think both sides take nothing for granted, partly hence why Lee wouldn't inject money into someone else's business. Yeah, a few million quid might be the equivalent to a few hundred in our terms, but I wouldnt be chucking a few hundred about if I wasn't certain I wasn't going to lose it. Chien Lee hasn't got where he is from giving it away on a wink and a promise.
Surely the sale must be agreed in principle or talks wouldn't have progressed at all. It wouldn't have progressed or be ongoing if the sale wasn't agreed in principle. Why would it?
5 months is a blink of an eye in corporate terms. Most deals of this nature take well over a year. I've only ever been directly involved in one such deal (not football related), and it took nearly 3 years.
You're not allowed logic and experience. The deal should have been completed in 15 minutes and there should have been a live feed from the discussion table to this website.
Yes, and the potential purchasers should have paid £10 million up front before the 15 minute negotiation period started.
