I doubt Heckys earned £10k a week anywhere as a player mate. Just looking through the list of clubs he played for and there are a heck *no pun intended* of smaller clubs in there. Besides that, footballers like nice cars and the other trappings they spend their brass on. Granted, he won't have to chase the money like I do though
Point taken, I had a look and his average earnings over his playing career are likely to have been in the region of £50,000 pa. Probably got a 7-figure payoff from Leeds though.
£500k is the figure quoted. Dunno if that would be subject to income tax though? Those kind of earnings are taxed at a higher rate as far as I'm aware - that's why wealth isn't for me
Don’t think he was a big spender, nice but modest for a footballer 4 bed house in Monk Bretton for the last decade or so & never had flash cars.
I watched Moneyball tonight. The final act where Beane turns down an astronomical salary with the Red Sox to stay with the A's got me thinking about Hecky. I wonder whether a little part of him wishes he did the same and stuck with his boyhood club? My gut feeling is that we'd have stayed up had he not left and we'd now be preparing for another season in the Championship. I took his departure massively to heart and felt more betrayed than a grown man should about football. Now the dust has settled I want the bloke to do well and hope the Leeds experience taught him a lesson. I'm sure he'll have no trouble getting a decent coaching job somewhere and I hope he gets welcomed back to Oakwell if we cross paths.
He contributed greatly to some great days out with my family with my club. He then got us a fee when he was probably getting sacked anyway and he then loved Leeds. Top banana.
Not many coaches around (worldwide) who can compare to this guy. Apparently Pep & Pochettino consider him the daddy. So Hecky shouldn't be too embarassed, still learning his trade.
But out of the starting 11 who beat stoke 10 were there under hecky last season only Barry Douglas started who wasn't, the 1st goalscorer was on loan under hecky.
I know, I saw the game. They’ve signed some quality players though, some talent on that bench, everyone in the squad will have to up their game to get a place
True, although the same players two seasons down the line with a load of experience under their belts will be a completely different kettle of fish to the lads we saw at the start of last season, many of which were clearly just not ready for one of the toughest leagues in the world.
Yeah i agree they have signed some quality and added to the quality they already had. Hate to day it but I think they will be top 6 this season.
Old ground now but Hecky had a great 2 years at Barnsley Leeds have had multiple managers in the last few years don't think Steve Evans or Neil Redfearn did much wrong with minimal backing too early to write off Hecky .
Having trouble accessing site at home some great analysis of racing at Windsor a few weeks ago nice to see Michael Stoute with some high class older horses but maybe Alpha Centauri will further her claim to racehorse of the year on Sunday.
