He might have mentioned it once or twice. The timing of the words is peculiar. We've waited for the past week for something from the club and they come out with something when tomorrow morning he will be facing the press anyway. I'd have liked for him to say in future we won't let contracts run down, we aren't going to become dependent on loans with two brought in during the past week and that he's not interested in Nottingham Forest. But for what the statement was it was OK and it means more coming from him as a lifelong fan.
We could have signed them on a two year deal with an option to extend on bigger wages. We failed. Your lack of understanding how contracts work is only matched by our erstwhile CEO.
The players weren't interested and said they would see the season out. How the **** is that the clubs fault.
Excellent statement.... makes total sense and once again consistent with everything he's been saying for weeks. We can't compete on money with other so called bigger clubs but what we do have is passion running through the club and a togetherness from the fans through to the team and up through the coaching staff and owner. We're unique! Look at little Barnsley - 8th in the Championship! I for one have loved the last 12 months and long may it continue. We even have a brilliant fanzine with fantastic underlying values - WSB & Dyson take a bow! Sorry.. I don't post much. :0)
Some people on here really need to go eat a very large bowl of reality. None of us want to see our heroes go but that's football. We simply do not have the financial muscle to behave like big Premier League clubs (or recently relegated clubs). Sure with hindsight it would have been good to have tied all our players on contracts last summer but there was no certainty any one of them would be capable of stepping up to Championship football. We could have ended up with 6 players on 3 year contracts at £8k per week and then got relegated, with an ensuing financial meltdown. Why has everyone suddenly lost confidence in our ability to recruit and develop even better talent than we have lost? Hecky has spelt it out as it is and is beyond criticism for doing so. No-one on here actually knows what goes on behind the scenes and formulate their opinions based on rumours and counter rumours. People say they felt let down but at what stage has everyone actually been let down over the past 12 months. Currently we are 8th in the table, 4 points off a play off place. Who is to say the current ins and outs will not actually improve our chances of reaching the top 6. Fair enough if we drop down the table like a lead balloon, fans have every right to feel let down but until that happens, why not just be positive, upbeat and thankful we are not heading to Oldham for a game on Saturday.
The most important person at the club is Hecky. We should be offering him a huge payrise now to ensure that his head isn't turned by the bigger clubs he refers to.
No need for a statement from Hecky we need one from the chairman saying why our players are going for so little, when Forest and other clubs in similar situations are getting a lot more. We still have a league one mentality off the field. Get the going rate for the players and carry on building that's all we want.
In hecky we have a god. Probably the best and most realistic statement from a manager at Oakwell ever. Lives Barnsley breathes Barnsley and simply tells it like it is. Long may he reign.
What can the club do about contracts ?, MacDonald and Yiadom have 18 months left on their contracts, if they offer them new ones now on money that fits into our wage budget do you honestly think they'll sign them ?. Not a cat in hells chance they started that good for us they're already out of our price range, and would you honestly have been happy in the summer if we had offered a non league and forth division defender five year deals, so what do we do now sell in the summer or next January they're the options pick one .
