It was his insistence to play 4141 with Bradshaw as the front 1. We kept losing, the football was terrible, we couldn't score and he wouldn't change to prove a point to the board. He was lucky Leeds came in as he couldn't have been far off getting the sack with us. Work out a system to suit the players you have in the division your in, Big Val style.
I remember him giving 352 a go for 45 minutes away against villa then switching back to the 4141 at half time. Also I remember him playing mowatt on the left wing away at Bristol 1st game of the season and thought this could be a long season.
Stevie Mallan, Moncur, and someone else who couldn't tackle made up that three. Gary Gardner was ineligible, and I assume Joe Williams was suspended. Wasn't a good day. Villa fans were so bored that they couldn't even be bothered to sing abusive football-related songs, and settled for: "Yorkshire tea, *****, *****, *****", and then something about PG Tips.
Personally, I think he’s probably a very good coach, but not a Manager. We all will remember him for that that second half of the season and first half in the Championship and he deserves credit for that. When the players were sold in January I did feel a bit for him but TBH, that all went out the window when I heard a Radio interview (after he left Hibs), where he talked about on 3 occasions he thought about leaving, once was when he left the other two times were during different roles. Each instance he said he wasn’t happy with something. Nothing wrong with wanting to leave if you’re not happy, but it did remove the ‘local boy, local club’ thing he had built up.
I couldn't understand that I know people were calling for the system to be changed from the 4141 but to do it away against one of the top teams for just 45 mins think we were 2-1 down at half time cavare scored a header and then change it back was like saying changed it did now back to my 4141. I also couldn't understand moaning about experience then loaning a player out in mowatt who had over 100 championship starts to his name to persevere with moncur and mallan. I couldn't understand why he didn't see the potential in pinnock when gus and the other center backs were poor. I know people didn't want to knock him because he was barnsley fan, ex player and he kept johnsons momentum going and achieved promotion but many of his decisions were baffling and his football was very negative after conor left and he put his own way of playing forward.
