I can't understand why he would turn down Poznan for Hudds but each to their own. Polish international player who spent most of his career in Poland, has a chance to go back to his home country to the biggest side in the country with the chance of European football but yet chooses to join Huddersfield. Seems weird but if it brings us some money in to sign players who want to be here then fine.
He broke into the Poland team playing in the Championship, so makes sense if he wants to stay in the league. There may be personal circumstances that lead to him wanting to stay, if his family have moved over and settled. Plus, once he goes back to Poland, who knows how much of a faff it might be for him to get a move back to England if he wanted one, post Brexit.
Maybe, lots of variables I guess, just seems an odd one on face value to me anyway. Good luck to him wherever he goes as he is a class act.
Helik would barely make my top 10 Barnsley Centre backs, if we can get a million for him then he can go.
Repeating myself but I implore anyone to watch the Forest home game last season when assessing Helik and his attitude.
If I was him I would run my contract down. could be in a much better position to negotiate then especially after the World Cup
But if he stays with us he ain't going to the World Cup, the Polish coach has made that very clear to him.
Please enlighten me on how clubs such as Bolton, Derby, Wigan, Reading, Wednesdeh etc etc etc continue to 'pay the bills' when they get into such dire straits, and in Derby's case manage to then fork out on a brand new team, because i genuinely don't get it? We are squibbling over a couple of million shortfall and jumping straight to 'we'll be in administration before summer '23'. That's madness. This isn't aimed at you personally - no offence - but @Dalestykes makes an interesting point and it's one i genuinely haven't really considered. What if we did keep our best players and suffered a few million shortfall? We are apparantly an honest, well-run (in the black in recent years) club, so if other clubs can keep going with years of tens of millions of pounds worth of debt, why would the lights go out forever on Grove Street if we don't make 2.5 million on Styles and Helik before the transfer window is out? Genuine question. If you don't know and this is all conjecture, fair enough, but there is an awful lot of noise around this and the finances of football to me are an absolute foggy quagmire.
what seems to happen is they stop paying HMRC, then their suppliers, then their players and staff and wait for the winding up order so that it becomes more attractive for someone to come in and pay none of that debt, take the docked points and start again.
Agreed. Play for the biggest club in his home country, in front of massive crowds and with European Football as they are in the group stages of the Europa Conference. A chance for him and his wife who he married just this summer to go be closer to friends and family. Instead he wants what could be another Championship relegation battle.
Does it not occur to you that he is happy and settled here in Yorkshire and doesn’t wish to move to Poznan? Or that Lech Poznan were saying he might not play but he’s been told he’d play every week at Huddersfield? There’s all sorts of potential issues. I’m not questioning his choice of club - that’s his call. As long as we get a reasonable fee and it’s paid up front or within the next year, that’s all we need to be worried about. And biggest club in Poland? Legia Warsaw have won seven of the last ten Polish leagues so I’d guess they’d argue against that!!!
Obviously we don't want to go down that route. I just don't get how we go from a debt of 5 million or less and jump to 'admin in months' and these other clubs seem to just roll on from year to year. I wonder if we could retain some quality in the squad just for a season (let's 'go crazy'), Styles will just have to suck it up and do his best to get us back in the Champ, Helik will be a rock in defence, get a quality striker in today and get Norwood on bin duty? We could take out a small loan to pay off the other loan, and then we'll get some money back when we go back up? Or is that all too simple for the world of football and we should just accept that it's either admin within the year or Athersley Rec within 5? Not aimed at you mate, all of this just blows my mind. And as evidenced by Troff, who is a reasonably opinionated poster at the worst of times, even he is throwing things out there but can't answer my question..
