    Genuine question

But are you saying that this is acceptable and what we should do in this country?

Surely as we would hold ourselves up as a civilised democracy we should understand that it goes on in other societies but rise above it? I take your point that there is a section of radicalsied Muslims who react against our culture but surely its not fair to say all are like that? The vast majority of muslims integrate in British society.

On top of that I don't think Britain is a christian country anymore and if so in name only. I would say its more secular, i for one would not class myself as religious at all

ACKY - LIGHTEN UP - GET A GIRLFRIEND OR SUMMAT

Acky, the quote about the french, scots, welsh etc was a bit of light hearted jesting at the numerous "racism" threads on this message board.

You decided to refer to me as ignorant, based on the fact we've never met or spoken.

If you feel so strongly about racism and ignorance in this country can you please tell me what you are doing in the real world to counter such views?

    RE: and by the way...........

I have absolutely no idea what your point is here.

You are that consumed in your own views that you can't see any form of jest and then you cling on to the most tenuous of comebacks when really there isn't an argument to be had in the first place.

Give it a rest yer ****** (is that a constructive enough comeback for you?)

Yes they'll neutralize the Sunni Muslims who are extremists but not Christians. Read the rest of the thread and you may see what i mean, won't hold out much hope of that though.
Also please butt out. This is an adults only debate. Myself and Bright Red and discussing our difference of opinions in a reasonable fashion, which we have done so for the last couple of days. There are people on here who i will not get into a discussion with as it's pointless, you are included in that category. Ta-ta

If you read the whole thread i was pointing out that when the boot is on the other foot - british christians settling in other countries are not treated the same as other immigrants are in this country. I chose religion and places of worship as an example.
I am not saying that it is acceptable to do the same in this country, as you pointed out only a small group of Muslims in this country are extremists. I do think that these people and preechers of hate who abuse our country should be deported.
For the record I am a Christian.

    RE: Genuine question

    Fair enough.

I think through history it is clear that religions struggle to co-exist. i don't think this is due to the nature of religion, but the fact this faith always leads to the opportunity for individuals to exploit it for there own personal ends. Chirtianity as an organised religion has a long history of violnece against other creeds, as those creeds have against Christianity. Ultimately I would never question another's faith in the spiritual sense as i feel thats a very personal thing, its organised religion that causes the problems, and currently Islam has a particular problem with individuals abusing teachings to their own ends, much like the fundamentalist Christians in America do

RE: ACKY - LIGHTEN UP - GET A GIRLFRIEND OR SUMMAT

I'm light as a feather! Maybe it's my tone of posts.... *shrugs* Look it's just a discussion and it's only my opinion. If folk don't like what i have to say then fine, im not begging anyone to agree with me, I sometimes wonder if my arguments are so paper thin why people resort to abusing me rather than tearing them up. Anyhow.......I trust if my comments make sense then people will take them as they are and not for who made them.

Im sorry, it's hard to discern jesting in amongst words like "hate the French". It wasn't really exactly posted in a jocular fashion was it?

Nope, only ignorant in regard to the specific comments you made. I can't possibly comment on anything else. And I have fiance, if you'd met me, you'd know. ;)

Does? This make my view more or less valid? It's a bit like asking people who don't want foreigners in the country what they are doing to stop them coming in! "Oh, well im putting up barricades and hitting Paki's!"

But fyi, Im currently doing some work with an asylum seeker organisation in Leeds who look after people arriving in the city.

I understand what you are saying and agree to an extent. Some of the Christian fundamentalists ideals are way beyond any mainstream group. Some to me are simply potty but as yet they have not resorted to organised terrorism

    RE: Genuine question

I think you missed my point or we were talking at cross-purposes. You had been saying that Muslims come over here, build their mosques and then undermine the country that has hosted them (not all of them). If the boot were on the other foot it would be (say) Christians going over to a Muslim country, setting up churches and then trying to undermine the host country. You think that could never happen / has never happened?

We live in dangerous times. The threat of Islamist extremists in this country and intolerant Islamic states around the world is real and is being fought against by brave men and women. Don't go telling me that the country is "lost" just because we are more tolerant of dissent than other countries. It's Daily Mailism talk at it's worst
