Absolutely correct. The American Republicans should mind their own business and spend their money on resources for their own kids and we should concentrate on conserving and improving access to our own libraries and public services.

I reckon we should start collecting funds for The Enemy Within library to be situated in Grantham.

    It's a minefield this.

Do I like Margaret Thatcher? No

Do I really want her legacy to live on? Not particularly, but if this is a publicly funded museum requiring accurate and balanced reporting of the miners strike, the Falklands Conflict and the poll tax controversy, then I'm certainly for children learning about that.

Do I think it will be accurate and balanced? I very much doubt it.

Am I against building more libraries and museums in general? No

But do I want this Thatcher museum built at the expense of other established libraries and museums receiving funding? No

But do I honestly believe that if this isn't built, that £15 million will go to these other libraries and museums? No

Do I think that anyone will benefit from this museum not being built, will that £15 million go to any needy people or organisations? No, it'll just mean we don't add £15 million to the national debt, which makes that figure look like a hair on a bacteria on a dust speck in a water droplet in the ocean. Estimates for the 2011/12 fiscal year state that the national debt increased by £286 million every single day without building any Thatcher museums. The cost to service the national debt, ie pay off the interest, costs the government £118 million every day. There are certainly ideological arguments against this venture, but we're not going to miss the money and even if we don't spend it we'll not get any of it.

    I'm conflicted.

Reversed long-tern economic decline (okay not round here), won three elections in a row, overcame the odds to become PM (being female and the daughter of a shopkeeper) helped end the cold war, actually had convictions unlike modern politicians.

I didn't like her very much mainly because of that horribly patronising tone she always used to affect but you can't deny she makes Cameron, Clegg and Miliband look like political pygmies.
