Nothing like giving the lad a warm welcome to the club, he hasn"t been here a week & you are slagging him off, cut him some slack & give him time to adjust
I sincerely hope Adam Hammill isn't going to get treated like Lord Bobby of Hassell was towards the end of his career. Still a regular first teamer for me, one of the best players in our squad who can turn a game in a second.
I'I not one to slate players normally actually. But I'm entitled to my opinion on a player. Saturday - no effort to track his runners, no support to the full back. Yesterday - watch the highlights. Absolutely zero effort to get back and put a tackle in. Lack of talent/adaption/getting up to speed I can accept from any player. He's the one who just looks like he couldn't be bothered to defend. Unforgivable. Hope he improves. In effort as much as ability.
I`ve noticed quite a lot of frustration with Hammill recently. I think that you have to put up with him trying and failing a number of times because when it comes off it`s sublime and something we haven`t otherwise got. There`s room in football (and especially at Barnsley) for the beautiful game.
5 days at the club, I hope if you ever start a new job, you are given time to settle in. I wonder if you were about when a certain Ronnie Glavin arrived at the club & by the way, I have not questioned your right to an opinion.
Potts is fast, he was much quicker than the Morecambe left back & winger in the first half. He tired later on but he's nothing like Digby
Potts played well in the first 30 or so minutes then faded badly. That can only be fitness and will improve given games. The same could be said for Pearson too. After 65 mins he'd completely run out of steam. As for Hammill, he's got all the tricks and wizardry which makes supporters get out of their seats. A genuine quality player who's defensive work goes unnoticed a lot of the time. Put in a real shift up and down the pitch last night. That being said, he still needs to move the ball a little quicker at times or find the easy pass. He doesn't have to tie the fullback in knots every single time when sometimes a simple ball will do it.
Sorry for thinking someone didn't put any effort in for tracking their runners, and looked out of their depth. I'm not blaming the bloke for being out of his depth. A lot of them are. I am blaming him for not tracking his runners or making an effort to support the full back. I would like very much for him to improve and turn into a quality championship player. But right now would rather Hedges, Hammill, Or even Yiadom with Fryers or McCArthy at left back played on the wing ahead of him.
