The current squad even when everybody is fit is a good League 1 squad Hill is doing his best on a meagre budget we did beat Middlesborough last week big spending Leicester and Birmingham have lost 2 in a week while Cardiff, Derby and Ipswich are not doing anything special. Yes its going to be a tough season and most people knew that from Day 1.
Yeah lets sack hill for not having any cash to build a decent squad. why not get off Hills back and aim some abuse the guys setting the Budget. Oh sorry I forgot The don had a meeting with 15 fans, gave them all a beer and told them what they wanted to hear, so now its back ti Hill. Don't come out with the crap about Hill not strengthening the defense either, Cranies probably the best we can afford on the shitty budget, what the point in spending what little cash we have on defenders worse than foster just to appease the fans. Last week Goldbourne, stones and Wiseman were fantastic, this week Wiseman and Goldboure are **** and stones is too young
I think it's because most folk realise that football at this level is changing and not for the better. Notwithstanding the mistakes made since we got back to this level but our total turnover is about £4mill and clubs are getting 3 times that just for parachute payments. As time goes on the challenge just to stop in The Championship is getting more and more difficult. That's not what people want to hear but it's a fact. That said I don't think off the field we are helping the manager as much as we ought to. It just helps to take things in context, although the keystone cops defending today was beyond comprehension.
To be fair as I have mentioned before I was angry at another away day farce. He has got a squad that can compete in this league on a limited budget. I was at that meeting and I got my free beer however you cannot point the finger at don etc for the continual capitualtion and general lack of ******** the first team show whenever the ponty end cannot be seen from the back window of the team coach. Now played three games away from home and have conceded 11 goals. The manager whom we should all be behind plays the same two weak links in our defence that conceded about 70 goals last season. Three of our next four are against teams fancied for promotion. Worried?
I am sick of hearing about low (est) budget. Look at the facts:- 1) Hill has not addressed the defensive weakness of last season 2) McNulty being injured is not a viable excuse as he was almost ever-present last season and we still had a poor goals against record 3) Buying Crainie and not playing him (in his natural centre-half position) is plain and simple stupid 4) Hill bought Edwards from Balckpool as club captain and he doesn't play him (neither would i, he's too slow)......shocking purchase and waste of money 5) Wiseman had a decent game against 'Boro at centre-half, but this is not his position 6) Foster has been a great servant and worth every penny of his transfer fee and wage(s) but he is now past his best and should not have got a new contract 7) Why did we buy Collins and not play him? 8) The first line of defence is goalkeeper and Hill has brought in Alnwick who head-butts someone in first game (subsequent ban for 3 games) and then Gonzalez as short-term replacement, who is a liability (don't tell me he was brilliant against 'Boro as he flapped at far more than he genuinely saved In my opinion, if Crystal Palace have offered ~£750K for Matty Done then we MUST sell and use all this cash to bring in a dominant centre half.
To be honest Mark, I can't remember a manager operating with such limited resources, relatively. One thing we have proved is that changing managers annually gets us nowhere. I like Keith, but I can also understand why some don't. Whether we like it or not, I can't think of anyone else able or willing to work within these limitations. We're treading water as a team, a club and a business and I think we just have to get on with it for the time being. I don't like fans being so divided on these issues, folk's opinions often say more about them than it does the club. We're coming off the end of a bad result, it was very different last weekend and I think we're in for one of those seasons - which for a club like ours - keeps it a bit vital and interesting! I want at least two likes off this, otherwise I'm not bothering again.
Do you work in Human Resources? Or project management? Ignore me, I don't know what I'm talking about.
can't comment on todays game because I didnt go, fortunately I was at work and My son was at Wembley for the rugby. Maybe its harsh to blame the Don but i think Hill gets unnecessary stick. Wiseman he hasn't done bad covering the the centre back position and everyone was raving about him after boro game. I dont think anyone was surprised to see him there again today. We all know foster isn't good enough but where the cash come from to replace him. Who do we get on the cheap or free better than foster. btw whats happening with Edwards, not been given a decent run in the team Collins?? any good
We all know times are hard and that we can't compete with most clubs as far as money is concerned. This is why it is absolutely crucial to make sure that we have in place the best manager available to Barnsley Football club. So the question is, do we? I for one don't think we do. That said I can't just blame KH for this. Its the guys who appointed him. We haven't had a good manager in charge for years. And the more times you get that appointment wrong, the longer it takes to put things right. It's important to note, the players KH has signed are not the only players available to BFC. They are the ones he chose to sign. Who says that he can pick a better player than the next manager?
What a load of twaddle you lot talk, who are we going to get as manager if Hill goes? Don't tell me Mick McCarthy. No we can't get him because we can't afford him. Some Barnsley fans need to realise not many people would want to manage us.
I am not advocating sacking Hill, I think it would be madness at this stage, but somebody like O'Driscoll would have been great IMO.
Its not about me suggesting an alternative. Its about knowing when things are not working. Plus I am not a director of Barnsley Football Club and therefore I am not paid to make those decisions. But I, like you and every other fan, am entitled to my opinion. And my earlier points were not suggesting that we sack KH at this time. I was simply saying that we appointed the wrong man. Very different points to be honest. I am pretty confident that he wont be in charge come the end of next season though.
This is exactly the attitude that's wrong at Oakwell these days. An acceptance that we should be grateful that we are in this league, that we have this manager, the players are all we can sign, he wouldn't want to come, etc etc. Remember Allan Clarke dropped 4 divisions to manage us. Someone has to discover the next Lambert, Rodgers, McDermott or Martinez. Why can't it be us?
i think it's cos a lot of us realise we're ****ed with him and ****ed without him. On attendances and budget alone we should be a league 1 side
We shouldn't be grateful we are in this league but I think we are punching above our weight at the moment. Totally agree with your last 3 sentences
