I would say competitive is staying in the division...getting relegated means you haven't been competitive.....the old glass half full argument again.

 

Ok. Here's my honest opinion of KH's signings...

Not Good Enough:
Alnwick, Golbourne, Dawson, Dagnall, Edwards, Collins, Wiseman, Done, Harewood.

Too early to tell:
Mido, Silva, Etuhu, Rooney, Kennedy.

Squad Players:
McNulty, Perkins, Mellis.

More like it:
Davies, Vaz Te, Cywka, Cranie, Drinkwater.

Sorry if I missed anyone. But if you take the players still on the books that are worthy of a place in the team each week, that is at least a 5:1 ratio.
Just my opinion mind.

 

i'd agree with that assesment redinburgh,other than I think Dawson is proving to be good enough to be one of your squad players.

over recent games dagnall has shown loads of effort without the end product of a goal,so theres maybe hope yet.

 

Your post is not good enough. It makes too many mistakes and is weak at the back. Only an opinion.

 

That's really interesting, don't think we're ever gonna agree though.

I think it all depends how you view us. If you look at us with a short term, win now mentality then he's not doing a good job. We're losing more than we win. Full stop.

But if you look at us with a longer term, development mentality (which is what he was brought in to do) then I think we're on track.

I think looking at how you've rated players you fall into the first category.

 

Golbourne;s ok young lad lots of promise,Dawson has been superb lately,Dagnall puts a shift in...don't know if he'll ever score,Edwards ..injury prone,Collins ..not seen enough to know,Wiseman could be a sweeper good forward runs but can't defend,Done?sometimes looks good,but still not sure,Harewood...thought he was a good signing..don't think so now.

Squad players..probably McNulty...Perkins is one of the best players in this division...read the opposition boards after the games,Mellis...got talent,not quite consistent yet.
More like it only disagreement is Drinkwater.....not knocking the lad...but Dawson has been better IMO

 

So who would you replace Hill with bearing in mind the budget the manager has.

 

You are right, I do fall into that category. But this is because I have watched clubs who were well behind us when we were promoted back to the Championship overtake us. Don't get me wrong though, it is not all Keith Hills fault.

 

developing players is all well and good if you can build a team on it,but our problem is as soon as any players shows more than a dozen games of quality then they're off to clubs who can pay them more,even if they are only keeping the bench warm.Its a vicious cycle that we cant get out of and we dont seem to get any further forward.
drinkwater wasnt our player but i wish we still had him.

 

Our expectations were so low in June and July because we'd all had to endure the utter garbage we were served up under Keith Hill from January to May. We're only exceeding expectations due to expectations being so low because of Keith Hill. I don't think that's much to shout about. And let's be honest now, the Birmingham result was a total fluke.

I'm not saying he should be sacked or owt like that, wouldn't dream of it if the decision were up to me, but it's about time a lot of people faced facts that we've got an average manager who talks a good game. We're a relatively small side in this division, there's no reason we should expect an excellent manager. But giving a good interview does not a good manager make. It makes a good character and there's no denying Keith Hill has plenty of that. But he's no better at producing winning football sides than either of our last three managers. Him telling us he's great and his disciples fawning over his every word doesn't make it so.

 

Agree entirely. But those clubs (Swansea in particular, Blackpool) had a set ethos/plan. Appointing similar managers and reinvesting. We've not had that guidance. If we did, we might have done better than we have these past years but I think we're starting now. 6 years too late but we need to keep faith with it.

 

We need a change at the top and by that I mean at board level. I for one was advocating this two years ago.
I can't name a future manager, it's never as simple as that. I am commenting on the one we have in the post now and have had for the last 2 seasons.
But new owners will bring a new manager in.

I've got to admit jay that hill sometimes leaves me scratching my head..on the way to the ground i was listening to his radio interview and his reasoning that points shouldnt matter makes me wonder if its just an excuse.We all know the performance of the players counts,but without the points whats the point?...A scrappy 1-0 win and three points is far better than a keep ball defeat and no points.

 

Fair enough. But he's producing a side on par results wise with our last 3 managers on what we're lead to believe is less money and with what on paper looks a weaker squad. I think he deserves credit for that. It might be wrong but we'll never know.

I don't like him because he's a character, I like him because I can see what he's trying to do as a manager. He's made a bucketload of mistakes but I think if we stick by him and give him some support (board wise) then we'll be ok.

I do like his coat, though.

 

I've justly criticised my "messiah" this evening. But are we seriously questioning his position after one bad game?
He has his weaknesses, but his strengths outweigh them, IMO.
Find it hilarious that anybody could call Dawson and Golbourne bad players. Staggered at that.
We are entering Movember, we'll be reight.
I still think we'll finish in our best position since returning to the division.

I think we should stick with him too. Sacking managers willy nilly is not something I advocate. And I don't think there's anyone out there who would come to Barnsley and do a better job on our budget. There's probably a fair few who would get similar results, but why sack one manager only to get in another who'd give you much of the same? No reason at all, stick with what we've got and back him.

And I do back him. I buy my season ticket, I shout and cheer, I stay until the end even when we're 4-1 down and I can't remember ever booing.

But he's not a messiah and I find some of the adulation he gets utterly preposterous.

I'm a Barnsley fan, I want the best for the club. Half of the time on here it seems like I'm talking to Keith Hill fans who want the best for Keith Hill.

Disagree, I just think that a lot of people (rightly or wrongly and including me) think Keith is what's best for the club.
