The difference being the police had the authority and experience to POLICE the situation ,the fact they chose to appoint an inexperienced officer to command the resources and who went on to make absolute catastrophic avoidable and unprecedented decisions is the reason those people died as proved in court today.
I was at Stoke as a young lad it was pretty terrifying. Would it have been our own faults should the worst have happened?
I recall a match at Roker Park where my sister and I were crushed against a barrier due to idiotic BFC fans pushing from the back. We begged The Police to open the fencing, and after several women startied screaming, plod opened the fencing. We were directed to seating in the stand, but after ten minutes we left the ground as I was nauseous due to the pain from the pressure of the crushing. First and only time I have left a football match before half time.
To be honest, this is the reason I go to very few away games these days. Although I have to admit that I do wonder where some of the Barnsley 'supporters' I encounter were dredged up from on my occasional away trips, having the police lump us all together in the same category is difficult to accept.
Yes we can all understand that ..........but what people find difficult to understand is that the people that died were crushed from a pressure from behind.......the question is, what caused that pressure?
I think its appalling what the authorities have done to hide their shortcomings and I can believe that the poor unfortunates who lost their lives were blameless. However given my various experiences at big cup games over the years (not just ours but ones that I have attended with friends who support other teams) and in particular close encounters with Liverpool fans at big games nobody will ever convince me that some fans wouldn't have played a part in the horrible events.
Agree with you entirely. There seems to be that 20% of those following the club away from home are scum of the earth. This has deterred me from going to away matches unless I can obtain seat in the seating section.
Ever been to a game where everybody was behaving themselves and somebody thought ah fk it just open the gates and let anybody in then Marlon?
That is explained in the Independent report which was published in 2012 - Read it! http://hillsborough.independent.gov.uk/report/
i'm still amazed that fcukin stand is still standing even now, even in the concourse upstairs it gets proper rammed when theres a decent crowd in.These families have finally got the verdict they should have had years ago.South yorks police in particular have a history of cover ups taking any blame away from themselves, orgreave and hillsborough.both within a couple of years just show what they can get away with especially when they have the establishment and their media puppets at the back of them. The Sun newspaper printed front page headlines about fans fighting, pissin on each other and even pickpocketing the dead, all without a shred of evidence,i hope these organisations get screwed now by the lawyers of the families, they put the blame entirely at those liverpool fans and people who survived have had to live for near on thirty years with that hanging over them.
Ever been in that funnel neck at back of Leppings Lane when traffic accidents have delayed thousands of fans who arrive late as a consequence and there's no filtering system and there aren't enough turnstiles anyway?
I blame the security services, I am not naïve enough to think that hooligan fans of all clubs in all countries did not contribute towards the erecting of fences at football grounds which lays some portion of blame on the fans, and not just Liverpool's. Please tell me any other reason that the fences were in place
The other thing that annoys me about the Scousers is they are big on remembering Hillsborough where they were the victims but they are far less keen when Heyshel comes up.
Yes I have I have also seen what often happens when fans think they are going to be late into a game and I stand by my earlier statement based on big matches that I would be incredibly surprised if the fans were totally blameless. Don't get me wrong I'm pleased that a wrong has been righted but particularly in that era I don't think it would have been black and white.
I blame football hooligans for clubs putting up the fences in the first place. I accept the decision of the independent & unbiased jurors, having listened to the facts for the last two years, not to attach any blame whatsoever to the Liverpool fans for the loss of life at Hillsborough. This is fact, not opinion. It is also accepted unequivocally by South Yorkshire Police.
Re: The other thing the fans have a banner at every home match remembering Heysel, the club have a plaque and shrine for the 39 dead and they hold a rememberance service every may 30th.
No not personally tbh but not saying it hadn't happened . On the same basis heard about a neighbour who took his car out to go drinking on numerous occasions and never had an accident so would that be OK to you as long as nothing happens ?
