Totally agree - I too wish Hirsty well in what is a very complex situation.

(There is a growing feeling amongst Lesbian Gay Bisexual organisations that Transgender/Transexuals should not be linked to them - not too sure why that is the case!)

They are paid for by NHS, there was a story that caused outrage the other day when the NHS paid for a sex change on an 80+ year old man (could have age slightly off, but you get the point)

I think I'm ok with NHS paying for it, but for an 80+ year old it takes the mick a bit. Supposedly it's a biological illness whereby the brain actually developed into a different gender in the womb. Not sure, but I have no reason to doubt it.

Thanks for the PM. Made yourself look a right ****. And you're banned.

Guess this will have to be a face to face argument in future instead of hiding behind a username. It's not hard to find me.

    Good night

Must admit this was a difficult one to get my head around, spoke to Simon many times when I used to work in town years ago (he used to DJ in the pubs/clubs) and he was as genuine as they come and is a proper ambassador for our town.

I already think that in the UK somebody coming out as gay has just about reached the point of being non-news. Very important to remember though that we are still somewhat the exception rather than the rule. Britain really is light years ahead of most countries in this area, which is something that we should be justifiably proud of. But we must never lose sight of the fact that many people do not live in such a generally enlightened society.

Came to speak at our school's celebration evening and came across as a really lovely person, talking up the town and trying to show the kids that you should be proud of being from Barnsley and not let it bar you from the jobs of your dreams. And for that I have great respect for her and wish her well

I don't think that's bigoted. I also think it's very weird, purely from an evolutionary standpoint. I also think it's weird that chameleons change colour. That doesn't make me a bigot either.

Absolutely. Well, certainly from my point of view anyway. Thinking something is weird is fine in my opinion. In fact, it's normal to think things are weird when they're different. It's when people think someone is weird and then choose to discriminate against or abuse that person that things become a problem.

Truth is we're all a bit weird. Some more than others and some in more obvious ways than others. We meet weirdness, think 'wow, that's weird' accept it and move on. Most of us do at any rate, a small percentage decide to call that person names or worse. They're the weirdest ones of all in my opinion.

Care to explain yourself? I'm all for free speech and being challenged, but just slinging insults isn't on.
