I still see Horace Jarvis at almost every home game and often have a chat with him at half-time.

Robert Briggs was in my form, and we were taught Maths in 3A by his elder brother. I imagine that was quite embarrassing for both of them.

Briggs taught us Maths in year 2 (1964) .I went to a christening somewhere in about 1990 and who should be the vicar but none other than Basher Briggs. We both stared at each other for a couple.of seconds before we realised we knew each other and had a good chat. He'd not lasted much longer in the teaching profession and was ordained about 5 years after leaving Holgate. He looked exactly the same with the same combed back hairstyle

I had no idea that he had become a vicar, but I could certainly envisage him in that role. He was a very nice chap, perhaps a bit too nice for the relatively tough task he had in dealing even with very well-motivated pupils.
