If we didn't fancy the lesson it was possible to wind him up on one of his pet subjects and then just let him ramble on for an hour or so. Good teacher though. :)

Heard he is brilliant at recognising ex pupils AND he's a season ticket holder AND could be a BBS forum reader.
That's probably why someone else praised his cricketing skills LOL.
Watch your back when you're next down at t'well dear Lord :D

Mr Mellor, the games teacher transformed me from an ineffective goalkeeper to an ineffective midfielder. I was born in Blackpool & some of my grandparents lived there till the early 80's & I got a Blackpool kit, as I kind of followed them as my second team. He used to always shout out "break out the Foster Grants" when I wore it. I once randomly scored a hat trick in a inter house match & I was forever known as "hat trick" to him from then on.

Going back to Mr Avery, his rants about the oak panelling being painted over & the new comprehensive system probably were the death of him sadly, as he died of a heart attack shortly after I left.

    Happy memories.

Started in 69, so I assume I left in 74?
Locke Sadler....2C2...to 5T( the academic side was late in developing...my story anyway)
    Spot Avery....top bloke, as was
    Mr Green
    Tom Kirby
    Vic? Lawton
    Wally Barnes
    Mr Sykes
    Jack Livesey
Bob? Adams (aka TV wrestler Steve Best...grannies favourite)
Nunk Goodman ( I always remember him telling me one playtime, that we didn't know we were born....when he was a kid in Germany playtime was only used for military drill)

Not so keen on at the time,
Mr Kearsley (art teacher), he used to drink a powdered lemon tea called ' Lift'...the naughty boys would sometimes add a spoon or two of yellow powder paint to it....he drove a Triumph Spitfire and was never afraid to nudge kids out of the way with his bumper at home time.
Vince Prooth....always gave him a wide berth.

Must be a few more if anyone can suggest some names.

Jack Livesey was mi Uncle. He was a big mate of Vic Prooth, who I couldn't stand!
Jack never had anything much to do with me in my time there bar randomly stick me in detention now and again just to show there was no favouritism. :)

Am I right in saying Jack had a son called Stephen?...went to school in Wakefield if I remember rightly.
If so he came on a school trip to the Rhine Valley with us.

74 KL There with Stahlrost. No good at footy but used to nick off school and to go and support the school team when they played away mid week !! “Boris” Lawton thought I played centre half.
