Control the ball? It's not that he didn't do anything. You're right that there's no way he could have influenced that game. There's nothing much he could have done at all. But his technical ability was there for all to see and he didn't have any.
I read on here that his contracts up. There’s Kane, Benson, Wolfe, Christie-Davies ahead of him in central midfield and then Brittain & Williams ahead of him at right back / wing back. I’d be surprised if he’s anything more than a fringe player / U23’s if he stays here.
tbf what on earth are people expecting? he's been left to rot. under the circumstances we're in, do people really expect him, or anyone else for that matter, to come on and look like a world beater? there's a long list of players in that team that need calling out for me, before we start on hondermarck
Last 15 minutes in a game non existent give the lad a chance. When he has had as many chances as some of the others then knock him
He won’t get as many chances as some of the others, because the coaching staff already know he isn’t good enough.
He’s hardly been left to rot. Schopp had him for a spell & as soon as we got players back to fitness he dropped down the pecking order. Poya clearly didn’t rate him & Devaney thinks Christie Davies is better based on last nights selection. Been left to rot is surely been out of the squad & U23’s like some others in the last few years like Cavare, Pinillos, Bahre etc. He starts regularly for the U23’s & clearly isn’t impressing. It’s as if some fans think there’s a conspiracy against him. If he was good enough he’d be involved. There’s been lots of injuries & other young players have had their chance. It’s not like we’re against playing kids. He’s not doing enough for 3 different managers.
The coaching staff haven't exactly covered themselves in glory this season, the team last night looked like it had never had a coaching session in its life.
you might be right, but we'd have to see that. players have been $hite all season and have still had plenty of game time. I'd give you some examples, but I'll just end naming our entire first team. calling him out on the back of a 15-minute sub appearance under these circumstances is crackers for me. as for his ability to impress schopp or poya. that's no measure of anything for me, personally. both absolutely fkn clueless at this level.
My view of Hondermarck during his previous brief appearances was that he had some pace, plenty of tenacity but not a great deal of quality. Last night's game didn't really change that, and I still think he would've been a better option off the bench than Odour against Reading and Benson/Palmer against Fulham. And if he's seen as a right wing back, he would've been a much better option than changing the back 3 against Coventry to bring Moon on and move Williams to RWB.
I like Hondermarck because he has a reducer. I've seen it against Stoke when he came on then again v Middlesbrough early doors and last night. He's the only player this season I've seen who likes to get a boot in. He should be in central midfield. Also he drives forward with the ball. He tried to do that last night but hamstrung by Brittain and a couple of occasions going backwards or not playing him in.
Dont think this thread is about knocking the player as such. More about those who demanded his inclusion every week based on a couple of sub appearances. It was clear to me he wasn't the answer and last night re0confirmed it.
Confirmed it after 15 minutes no we can knock the regulars who get in week in week out and do nothing but not after 15 minutes
It wasn't about whether he was "the answer", there was no single answer because so much was wrong. But was he a better option off the bench than the ones we used in games where lost points because of late goals?
Yup. Agree. If he works hard this summer and takes on board the U23s comments and advice, he could break through next year. If not, he’ll be loaned out and not seen again. There’s a reason previous clubs and BFC managers/coaches haven’t started him.
