Also, my all time greatest Barnsley 11, would have Ward and Hignett too, but it wouldn't have Murphy. Legends aren't necessarily the best players to me, Bobby Hassell is such a player, a legend in my eyes but not a great player. Like I said, I'm weird!
My all-time favourites Barnsley XI (posted dozens of times on here ) is:- 1. Heinz Muller 2. Neil Cooper 3. David Booth 4. Ronnie Glavin 5. Mick McCarthy 6. Pat Howard 7. Mick Butler 8. Craig Hignett 9. Ashley Ward 10Neil Redfearn 11Conor Hourihane. Now this is MY 'favourites XI', not to be confused with who were the best players in their positions. Although, some obviously are the best.
I like him as a player and person for us he was great, he looked poor last night (watch him run the game on saturday)do I ever want to see him play for us again? No thanks for the memories but never go back it never works for player/manager or club the only exception is hammill
CoupleQUOTE] Couple on there are a bit before my time (I'm a relative young'un next to you though ), but that's a very strong 11.
He certainly didn’t seem “on it” as much last night as what we’ve all seen before. Took the pee a bit with some corners and free kicks too. I’d still love him back here though.
Special midfielders for us need to be created and moulded which will always take a bit of time for them to settle in and the team to be shaped around them. Alex and Houriane are good examples of this, our team is built around Mowatt at the minute and it will be interesting to see how he does at his next club if he isn't given that luxury, even Redfearn struggled to recreate his Barnsley form after leaving us.
To be fair to CH he was in a no win situation regarding his love affair with the club...being one of many ex players who have barnsley etched firmly in his heart He wouldn't have wanted to heap heartache on the club as he wants barnsley to do well ...yes he went on record saying that he was at Swansea and that he would give his all if selected....however watching the game i was convinced on more than one or two occasion that the crosses that he put in were purposely either dropped short or over hit making it bread and butter stuff for a keeper to catch or the defender to clear easily ... Personally I think he purposely just did enough not to be found out by Swansea....and not too much to threaten us... So here's to you CH barnsley loves you more and more ... etc.. Therefore I'd say cut the lad some slack and thank him for not only getting out of second gear but for not piling on further heartbreak And yes I'd have him back tomorrow if not only for his footballing brain...
I loved Hourihane before yesterday’s game, hated him and his shithousery for 90 minutes I’m now back loving him again.
Sorry can't believe a pro footballer would intentionally lower his output to suit a past club. Just can't see it at all.
It would speak very badly of a professional footballer not to do his best fot club that is paying his wages. On Monday night I thought CH's balls in were not to his usual standard, but I don't believe this was intentional. Matt Grimes was the pick of Swansea's midfield for me. I didnt notice any particular abuse for CH near me ESL 1st occupied row by corner flag next to wherd Swansea came out from North stand. At the end, when Swansea were leaving the pitch, and we were all clapping The Reds in the middle of the pitch, several Swansea players were clapping too (Guehi after the match said the fans had created a fantastic atmosphere). Naughton was smiling and acknowledging Reds fans in our corner. CH was also applauding us and gave us a thumbs up (other fans in our section sas this too). This reflects well on the man.
Hourihane has become like that ex lover that people keep pining over. They keep a little keepsake like a wallet photo or lock of his hair and purr over him at every opportunity. They just can't let him go. He's moved on
