Thats a simple one. To raise funds to operate and to compete.

Ever been to Burnley? Currently about to start in the Prem, ground and facilities like they are currently starting in the Northern Premier League.

I wasn't going to buy a season ticket this season, but now I've heard they're painting the inside of the ESL I'll be in the box office first thing tomorrow morning.

    Said no one, ever.

You don't think that there is anybody ever who has been put off because of the rundown nature of the ground? If so you are wrong wrong wrong

A nice shiny Oakwell would be a more attractive place, yes.

However, Patrick's money is much better spent on the football as that's the main attraction. If we're playing good football and winning we'll get a couple of thousand extra on the gate. If the west stand bogs are refitted you might get a handful of extra people, at most.

We have a finite amount of money to spend and there's a list of priorities, and at the moment I think we have our priorities right.

There will be at least 2 home games this season that are £38. Surely you haven't missed that.

I might not turn up at 2.55pm and walk straight past them to my seat if it looked a bit nicer. I was on a course the day of the York match and managed to persuade a few of the other people on the course to come along as the tickets were cheap and they didn't have any other evening plans. Do you know what they said upon walking in? 'It looks like a building site', 'It's a bit depressing isn't?' 'You wouldn't want to hang out here, would you? You'd think they'd paint it or something'. Then of course there were the obligatory scoreboard jokes. Which yes, was a tad rude but they said it in a friendly enough manner and it's not like I was able to argue the fact.

Not missed anything official then? Just speculation? And definitely not an announcement that also includes how Barnsley fans can avoid paying that?

This whole thread is of Conference standard. Nevermind our facilities.

Don't hold your breath on that one. The realisation that I won't be able to afford many games this season has taken some of the shine off what we achieved in May.

Waiting for that to happen is like waiting for the new scoreboard all over again, tickets have been on sale for the first batch for a while now and still nothing has been put in place, just a hint that something might happen with no indication as to when or what.

Nevermind holding my breath - I can't get my breath. All based on pure speculation.

Our ticket prices could be lower in general, and the whole Category A* thing was a bit of a PR disaster, but I genuinely reckon that once you factor in the deals on offer throughout the season you'll attend more games than you think. I think we'll also end up being one of the cheapest in the league overall.

But the pricing for the first batch is pretty reasonable? Max of £30 for Villa if bought in advance?

Yes I think football should be much cheaper. But we're hardly being extortianate at £2/£3 more than last season for Villa at home.

I thought our pricing strategy was supposed to be a retaliatory one. How come then that the Aston Villa home game is priced at £32 when Villa are only charging Rotherham supporters £25 next week. Surely Barnsley and Rotherham will be the same category.

    Two things about that though:

    1) people who don't know about work arrangements until the day (a common reason for not having a season ticket) will have to pay £32 not a max of £30.
    2) people keep saying 'it's only a few pounds more than last season' like last season's prices were cheap as chips or something. I had massive issues with paying £28 for a ticket last year so I'm not going to be happy about it staying the same never mind going up by 'only a few' quid, especially when that only a few is actually a tenner for some games (yes I'm aware that some are cheaper than last season but I still wouldn't call them cheap). Also, it's not speculation to quote a price they gave and are clearly planning on using at some point.

Who's speculating now! What deals? They haven't announced any.

You're absolutely spot on Supertyke. It doesn't need a millionaire to paint the concourse now and again, take down tacky signs from 1999, put in decent TVs and switch them on, install a decent scoreboard, clean seats and generally keep the stadium in good nick. It's looking a right **** hole.
