How can people say that was dire?

It was that bad Johnson's apologised to the fans for the performance but some are still trying to make out it wasn't a bad display

 

It was bad, I won't blame Winnall who tried his knackers off, with that non entity at the side of him. Had nothing to work off. Smith 2 decent set pieces but gave the ball away countless times, correct to sub him.
All those quality midfielders, yet he starts Rothwell!
Thought Scowen dived for the pen and would have been mad as **** if given against us.
Impressed with Burton, and they really should have equalised.
One final thing, Hourihane had our first shot after coming on, and scored the winner. Says it all really.

Scowen had our first shot that went over the bar followed by Hourihane shot and penalty other than that Bree put in a cross which glanced off their defender and went just wide, well it looked close from my angle.

 

Dire might be strong but it was booooooring an hour to get a shot on target, Lee Johnson didn't rate it either btw but what does he know?

We could create 20 chances a game but it's no could coming away drawing or losing

Not dire but could do better. Good to hear the manager being honest at least. We have potential with this group. For the first 30 our passing was zippy and purposeful. Good movement and I thought we looked by far the better side. I also like 3 at the back if played properly. Lewis Alf and Marc are strong and will become stronger together as the season evolves. We faded as the game went on. And Burton looked increasingly better organised as the game went on. They are a good side.
I thought our real problem today was the lack of service to the front two. Playing Crowley in te hole is the answer for me. He's not physically toughened up yet but by god he has quality. LJ has given himself problems by his own admission "overloading with midfield players". And this having said that he was going to concentrate on the "boxes" . Ie signing players who could be effective in the defensive and attacking boxes.
Anyways, not dire but could be better, still time to grow and 132 points to play for!!!!

 

Without reading the other 24 replies, I wouldn't say it was dire. It wasn't a great performance but it led to a solid win against a team who hadn't lost since February.

However, there was a distinct lack of creativity until Crowley and Hourihane came on. We desperately need to get another winger in/Williams fit as two defensive minded wing backs makes for a fairly boring game. And it'd be nice if we'd play the ball to Winnall/Watkins' feet so they can have a shot every now and again.

Can't complain at 3 points though, pretty sure we'd all have taken that any way possible before the game.

 

We won despite clearly not playing anywhere near to our full potential.

A little sloppy at the back, but you can't argue with a clean sheet. Burton are notoriously low scorers, their two strikers got 14 between them last season and they won the league.

First 20 minutes or so, we played some excellent football, moved around with a lot of purpose, but I don't know if the players just aren't fit enough yet, or whether the effects of Tuesday night kicked in, but we began to look more and more leggy. Burton didn't create wave after wave of dangerous attack, more the occasional heart stopping moment.

We coasted to victory in the end, and it probably shouldn't have been as comfortable as it was. We didn't create much, I think that was more down to the formation than the players. We're still a couple of players short of a full squad. We need a striker ASAP.

We're going to play better than that this season, and yet we got the 3 points we needed. I think we did deserve the win. I didn't think the winning goal was ever going to come mind.

Coasted to victory when their lad missed that guilt edged chance, and then they hit the bar! Aye alright.

 

Scowen did in my opinion dive for the pen that was given but I did feel he was fouled seconds before when one wasn't given so still thought the right decision was given
