I've no idea how true, but I was told by a Leicester supporting friend who represented their Trust at the time, that we sent Barnes back rather than them recalling him. His recall did coincide straight after a game where he didn't pick up his man to score at the back post (can't remember who now), so it could well have validity.
Personally, I'd have been happy to see Matty James stay until the end of the season. However, if Valerien decided otherwise that's fine. He's hardly put a foot wrong since he took over and I know he has more footballing knowledge in his little toenail than I'll ever have.
When James signed, Mowatts performances dropped. His worst spell. Picked up again when he left. It was very noticable imho.
Disagree entirely and the statistics seem to point to what I say. Prior to James signing and while struber was manager mowatt had no assists or goals this season, after struber left mowatt got in amongst the goals and actually scored in both james' first and second starts. Miwatte got a goal or assist every 10 championship games under struber. As soon as he left hus performances improved and he started to get more goals and assists like we always knew he could
Since James left, Mowatt has played 90 mins most games. During James stay he was getting subbed on a regular basis. He was doing very little. Imho. He returned to being midfield general. When james left.
He flys like a bird in the sky He flys like a bird and I wish that he was mine He flies like a bird oh me oh my I see him sigh. Now I know, I can't let Matty go
We didn't have to pay that amount (or even half that). I suspect you are right that we used the budget towards Morris, Kitching and Dike though and it does look like it was the correct decision. (Val's by all accounts)
I'd have still kept him. I'm not a fan of Kane. An injury to Mowatt would leave us a little light. I'd also start with J. Williams at LWB and move Styles in the centre in favour of Palmer.
1968. Pretty good year for music. Honeybus were the proverbial one-hit wonders which is surprising because this record was a hit all around the world. They just couldn’t reproduce that success.
Doubt that very much, at one point barnes was involved in almost every goal we scored while he was on loan. At the time it was said lesciter wanted to assess him for the 1st team and other rumors said they didn't want him in a struggling side. They are renowned for cutting loans short they did it with barnes at West brom the season after.
i think heckingbottom did an interview lambasting ‘some players’ for not doing their basic roles and only wanting to do the glamorous stuff. And then Barnes was gone.
Hecky publicly slated players after most defeats it was more to divert criticism from his awful negative tactics. Barnes was our top performer in terms of goals and assists that 1st half of the season no way we sent him back.
I thought Leicester had just got a new manager that January and they recalled a few so he could have a look at them
It’s not that his performances have improved it’s that he’s playing a different role now in that he can go forward. Previously he played at the base of the diamond & rarely got forward. He was still our best player he was just very unlikely to score or assist due to how deep he was playing. If you go back to when Struber first took over he played Halme as the holding midfielder & Mowatt was on the left of the diamond chipping in with goals & lots of assists. He then signed players in January & decided to play Mowatt as the holding midfielder. I prefer him having freedom to go forward but ultimately he played well & we stayed up so we can hardly criticise Struber for it.
We will never know for sure but I think you’re right. I’m pretty sure he went straight back & started for them in the cup
