This. Pretty sure he played for the in the fa cup straight away after his loan was ended. on Matty James, some regular glass half empty posters were keen to give the club stick for not keeping him. For me we looked safe at the time, so why not give Kane/Palmer a try rather than playing someone who isn’t ever going to be our player. Now apparently not having James might be the reason we don’t make the playoffs!! I think some posters are just looking for faults.
If we sent back a player who was leading assists and I think top goal scorer behind Bradshaw thats terrible management. So I do doubt it.
I’ve only just picked up on this thread and I know it’s moved on a bit from the OP but my view is that good players will always be missed and Matty James is a good player - so he is missed by me.
It had more of a personal ring for me. I was 15, going on 16, at the time with a "sort of" girlfriend called Margaret who decided I wasn't for her after all (sad ). So when this song came along "I Can't Let Maggie Go" you can imagine the teenage angst going on there
^^^^^^^ This sums it up. If we had a limitless budget, having him now when we are on the cusp of a playoff position would be terrific. We all know that is not the case & Morris, Kitching & Dike have made the difference to us pushing on, along with some excellent performances from young Palmer.
It was reported at the time that the Leicester manager recalled Barnes, who played in the FA Cup a week or so later. Not sure why anyone would think we sent him back given he was our star player.
Didn't Barnes go back out on loan to West Brom straight away(ish). Would suggest that it wasn't them that recalled him if so.
My point exactly if he had stayed rest of the season we would almost certainly stayed up along with mcburnie loan and kieffer. We only went down by one point in the end was it.
With repect to Aapo Halme, the fact that he has appeared in central midfield for the last 3 matches emphasises that he is being missed.
not really a controversial opinion. But again Halme is our player and James wasn't. Who is it better for us to play long run? Obviously Halme.
Gone and forgotten. By me anyway. Styles is more than capable of filling his place. With Williams plugging that left side.
Mowatt’s best spell in a Barnsley shirt in my opinion came shortly after Struber took over & he played on the left of a diamond with Halme sitting behind him. Halme might not have the passing range of James but he doesn’t need to. Just keep it simple & give it to Mowatt & the wing backs & we’ll be fine.
Matty James isn’t starting regularly for Coventry by the way. Started his first two games for them but has only started one of the last 5. He’s fit as well as been on the bench & come on. No idea about the strength of the Coventry midfield & what this means but just thought it was interesting
Yeah I think Val wastes a sub there. He should just bring on Williams for Palmer and push Styles into the middle. Only makes sense if Brittains the one having a breather.
