62 clubs of the current listings. Grounds may be more if I have been to the old and new but I can't be arsed to check.
I’ll join you in the lower numbers. Not bothering to separate the old from the new: - Oakwell (duh) - Millmoor - Elland Road - Bramall Lane - Hillsborough - White Hart Lane - Fratton Park - The Valley (Charlton) - The Dell (Southampton, old ground) - Old Trafford - Adams Park (Wycombe) - Kassam Stadium (Oxford) - Brighton (old ground)
If you were a bloke you could have put Belle Vue. It wouldn't matter if you had been circumsised because they only had half a ground.
29 but been to a few old grounds that don't count Arsenal, Sunderland, Hull for example- few have dropped out of the league as well - Notts County , Stockport. Find it hard to go away when home games are like away games for me
I've lost 26 through teams changing stadiums or going out of the league. Some I've visited both old and new including Darlington who have gone. Current stadiums visited Im back to 42 after being in the 60s thirty years ago Old grounds gone Man City Leicester Tottenham Arsenal Brentford Coventry Huddersfield Stoke Derby Rotherham Hull Doncaster Bolton Northampton Scunthorpe Walsall Darlington Teams no longer in league Torquay Hartlepool Stockport Halifax Chesterfield Notts County York Bradford PA Darlington
At one stage (when I was a 14 year old kid) I had all 92 - finishing them at Brentford’s old Griffin Park on 1st May 1993 with Barnsley) and at the time 56 of them were with Barnsley, and the rest neutral games - when we got to about 40 me and my Dad went to a neutral game and collected grounds on weekends that Barnsley had away games at grounds that we’ve already been to. I’ve just been through them now and I’ve only got 77 of the current grounds. I’m missing: West Ham (although I’ve seen Olympics and baseball there and I’ve been to Upton Park) Spurs (although I’ve been to White Hart Lane) Brentford (although I’ve been to Griffin Park) Rotherham (although I’ve been to Millmoor) MK Dons Burton Albion Wimbledon (although I saw them when they played at Selhurst Park) Morecambe Newport Salford Forest Green Crawley Harrogate Stevenage Barrow. Let’s hope I never get chance to see the majority of the new ones with Barnsley....
79 of the current 92. Missing: AFC Wimbledon (brand new) Arsenal Barrow Cambridge Cheltenham Exeter FGR Morecambe Newport Shrewsbury Stevenage Tottenham West Ham If you include all the stadiums long gone, I'm guessing I'd be at 100 at least. Highbury, White Hart Lane, Upton Park, Maine Road, Filbert Street, Baseball Ground, The Dell, Griffin Park, Belle Vue, Millmoor, Highfield Road, Ricoh, Roker Park, Ayresome Park, Leeds Road, whatever MK Dons played at in 2004. Plus the ones who've dropped out like Notts County, Stockport and so on. The job I have has helped, admittedly. A lot of the southern ones I used to ignore, I've ticked off through necessity. Since I started the job, we've played 248 competitive games. We've won 95, drawn 62 and lost 91. Fingers crossed it's 100 victories by May 29.
I'm on the low list too. Not sure how many though so let's have a work through the list Man city, Leeds, Sheffield United, Norwich, Barnsley, Blackburn, Huddersfield, Rotherham, other Dee dars, hull, Doncaster, Bradford, Scunthorpe, Grimsby 14. More than I thought to be honest but still low
27 - mixture of new and old. Not always to see Barnsley play though, for example went in the away end at bellend road to watch Leeds West Ham - that was a good laugh being a ****-I-neeee for the day! Also randomly been to Southend and Ipswich when visiting my mate in Essex, Highbury and Anfield with work colleagues, and a few more. I admire those who go away with tarn, it’s generally been a thankless task, although Bradford away under Stendell was a memorable day for me, it makes up for the Grimsby away experiences. Now the kids are all grown up (nearly). I intend to add a few more- maybe some prem grounds fingers crossed!!
You must have officiated at a high standard. It would be interesting to know what you think about the difficulties of refereeing and whether it is more tricky (or less) at a high level. And whether some of our criticism of the standard these days is fair.
