I started in 1967 and stopped last season, no doubt I will start again in a year or two.

    Re: 52 years for me

First game for me was the promotion game vs Grimbsy Town at the end of the 78/79 season aged 10 - dad took me on a spur of the moment.
Went to about 10 games in 79/80
Had a Junior season Ticket in the Hunter promotion season in 80/81, and for the following 2 seasons.
My parents couldn't afford one in the next 3 seasons 83/84, 84/85 and 85/86 but I still went to most home games.

Then in the summer of '86 I got my first part time weekend job aged 17 whilst in the VI Form and it kind of put the kibosh on the football for a bit, followed by University from 87 - 90, so games were sparse in those 4 years.

Returned home after University in 90 and went to most games in 90/91 season.

Got ST in 91/92 and had one ever since.

So 34 years a supporter, 26 season tickets, including last 23 years in a row. :)

1976 for me. I was 3 and have been hooked ever since. I've left jobs and split up wi lasses due to putting the Super Reds first and wouldn't have it any other way. My dad would bring me and my brother and lift us over the turnstiles and give the bloke a few bob for a pint. Started in West Stand Upper where you paid extra for a cushion (does that still happen?) and then progressed to sitting on top of the St John's Ambulance box in the Brewery, a few seasons stood on the ponty and then found our home for a fair few years behind the home dugout on the Terrace. Nowadays, we sit in the East Upper bang on the half way line.

    12 Feb 1994; Barnsley 3-0 Stoke.

9 years old at the time. I got free tickets from school. My dad was (is) a Leeds fan, and my uncle was a Wednesday fan so I had a lucky escape.

Went to a few more games before the end of the season and that was it: hooked.

I think you might be doing yourself a disservice, mate. Are you sure it wasn't 1966? The reason I ask is that my first game was also at home to Barrow, it was also a 3-2 defeat. But mine was in 1968. The previous season (1967/68) was a promotion season and I was under the impression Barnsley were undefeated then. It'd mean you've being going down longer than you thought, if that's true.:D

You cant be that old - even I have been going longer than that next season will be Season 43 for me and there are plenty of others on here who go back further - not quite sure how long my Dad has been going but it must over 60 years at least

Could've sworn it was Cliff Binns but could be wrong. We used to wait outside the entrance for players to come out to get their autographs. Hair still wet. They used to rush up Belgrave Road to catch their bus home.

20th August 1974 Halifax Town at home. 1st round of league cup. Halifax scored just before half time whilst I was at the toilet. I didn't know we'd lost until someone told me on the bus home.

I can only speak for myself, mate

But the length of time I've been watching Barnsley does not mean I have a greater depth of footballing knowledge than others. It simply means that I'm old!:D

Oh chuff... saw this and worked out that this season will be my 35th.... sporadic at the beginning (I was a kid), consistent then sporadic again (I was a student in big London and a rock star) and a regular London Tyke season ticket holder... god I feel old! These types of thread should be banned! :p

Fairly sure it was August 67' I seem to remember looking it up on some stats page and think we started 2 seasons off consecutively with 2-3 home defeats to Barrow........... Just checked again and you are right. It was either 30 Aug 66 or 10 Aug 68. Both 2-3. Not sure now which it was. I was either aged 4 or 6!

My dad started taking me in about 1991 when I was 7, and I had a season ticket from 1996-97. As i'm now happily ensconced in Sydney this'll be the first season that I've not had a season ticket since 96/97, and it's unlikely that I'll get to a game until next Xmas.

    Thank christ for BarnsleyPlayer!
