Is Freestle an official stroke though I know people always swim front crawl as its the fastest - but I think you can swin any stroke you like for freestyle cant you?
Yes. But unless you do front crawl you're not very likely to achieve any qualifying times for anything other than a club meet.
You are right Freestyle does mean that you can swim anyone of the four strokes if you please. It is always front crawl though as it is the fastest. Front Crawl is an offical stroke though, otherwise, it wouldn't be used
Owen you are being owned by Dirk and IOWT. May I give you some advice? That would be to stop replying in this thread and admit defeat.
RE: can't see it myself It was a shock to me to see Slacky being backed by someone. I thought he had no mates on here. Who's in OSBs clique?
Oh You go to watch your kids swimming! I assumed you just went to watch any kids swimming. My bad as those pesky Americans insist on saying.
RE: can't see it myself A small clique, watch more closely in future and all will be revealed!! i can think of 3 any advances on that?
Not sure you are right This is an academic discussion I realise but I dont think you would be disqualified for doing doggy paddle if you wanted to. Front Crawl is a defined stroke I agree but I thought free style meant you could swim however you like. so doggy paddle, back butterfly or anything else you care to invent would be allowed.
In the schools/club meets you do see kids doing all sorts of strokes in freestyle races. It is obviously allowed and no doubt in a 100m running race you wouldn't be DQ'ed for hopping but there wouldn't be much point.
correcto mundo you can use any style you like, front crawl just happens to fastest. when you see the little kids racing you will occasionally see them doing back stroke or breast stroke in a free style race because thats what happens to be their fastest stroke. there used to be a fifth style called old english backstroke that involved double arm pulls and breaststroke legs
A disabled swimmer did old english back at a meet last week. I guess it's still allowed.
Another guy swam 200m Butterfly, he was awesome as his disability was that he only had one-arm. Amazing.
