Being able to take a corner doesn't excuse being lazy. Yesterday we were defending a corner or freekick (I forget which) and the ball fell to one of our players who rushed out with it. The entire team broke forwards except for you know who. By the time we had got the ball into their third of the pitch I looked and hourihane was behind our back four strolling up the pitch. No word of a lie he was actually behind our centre backs. They won the ball off us and everyone ran back by the time they got near our defence Pearson, scowen and lalcovic were all in more defensive positions than hourihane who they overtook running back. That was nothing to do with ability or confidence it was purely lazy. And why is it that he gets away with turning his back on nyatanga when he takes a throw in? Just turning the opposite way and walking around. Sorry but he's got the ability but absolutely none of the drive and application. It said a lot when mellis did more running than him
As I stated earlier, we have quite a few lads who are capable of getting on the end of them these days Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Howabout scoring nearly as many goals as ever other player added together? Twice as many as Winnall. More than Winnall, Hemmings,Lita and Waring combined. Take his goals and assists out and we are bottom of the table with about 10goals. Of the penalties he's taken he won 3 of them. I appreciate that sone people value running around like mad and pointing with an ability to play football. It's why people keep employing Stephen Dawson. Conor carried the team by himself earlier in the season he can't do that week In and week out. The aim of football isn't to run about it's to create and score goals Other than Deli Alle Hourihane Is clearly the best in our league at that. You might have your opinion but the facts are the facts.
He had one decent pass all night in an attacking position from Winnall. Like I said some folks would whinge that They didn't want Bobby Charlton because he was too bald. The boo boys would be on Glavin's back in 5 minutes these days.
Twice as many as Winnall?? I said it earlier in the season his overall performances wernt good enough but were being masked by slotting away a penalty or someone getting on the end of one of his floaty corners. Those aspects have now dried up as was expected and unless he quickly improves his overall game he shouldnt be anywhere near our starting 11. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Only player to play every minute of every game I'm pretty sure he is. Unless I've missed the games where he was dropped.
Which might explain why he may have looked tired, not lazy in the latter stages last night, according to Supertyke? I cannot get my head around the criticism of this lad. Some of the stuff aimed at him on here is bizarre. "well, I know he scored and set the other two goals up as well as nearly creating two other goals and forcing the keeper into some saves, but I've not seen him run a game..." ******* barmy.
But presumably these are the same, or close relations of, the pundits that criticised the likes of Ian Banks when he first emerged. To the point where his confidence was totally shot. Only difference being that in those days they didn't have forums like this on which to spout their nonsense. Given the bile directed towards him by some on here I took particular notice of Hourihane's work rate last night. He may not be hitting anything like the heights of early season, and I do accept that he's hardly Norman Hunter when it comes to tackling, but it's got absolutely nothing to do with laziness. To suggest otherwise is just ridiculous.
He's played every minute of every game. I think that's to be commended as well as taken into consideration when assessing his form for us so far this season. But aye, I cannot get my head around how he's even had one piece of criticism from supporters. We cried out for a goalscoring midfielder. We cried out for a creator. And for some decent corner taking. He produces on all accounts, as well as being young and costing us just 200k.
Thought he looked a lot better when Sam Winnall came on. There was an extra step in his game and he linked up well with Sam. Hemmings scored a good goal, but overall was poor. Hourihane hasn't been the same player since Winnall got injured.
I'm all for differing opinions. That's what football is all about, but when you are trying to make a point and are faced with FACTS and STATS that you can't ignore you are just taking stabs in the dark to try and take away their worth. Floaty corners?? People have posted facts in this thread about the number of corners we have scored. I haven't even looked, but i imagine he had similar success at Plymouth, or do they also have players that are good at attacking the ball too? When Leon, Trippier, every other player taking corners in every division step up there are always 2 big ugly centre backs to aim at. If you have an opinion about Hourihane then fair enough, but you have to accept the facts and argue why you feel that why in spite of those facts not just trying to disprove them. Just makes it harder to take your opinion seriously.
That's a bit of a ridiculous comment considering Cranie, Ramage and Nyatanga have been getting on the end of his corners and they were all here last season and didn't score from a corner. I see Operation let's force our most talented player out of the club is well under way. You aren't going to find complete footballers at L1 level, that's why they're in a L1 team.
