If a statement is not released by the Club they are castigated for not telling the full story and keeping supporters in the dark and then we only have the players side of the story told to some supporter in a pub and retold on here. We have seen today on here what that can lead to two completely contradictory stories both told in person by the player himself within a week of each other. It is human nature (especially in a pub) to try and make yourself look like the inocent party. If the Club made inaccurate statements on their website Howard could take them to the cleanears there is no comeback against Howard for "alleged" statements in a pub.
Let me just be clear that releasing, selling or simply not offering new contracts to any player is a part of football that happens, you don't like it but it happens and you move on. The only thing that has annoyed me is the way it has been dealt with and the potential damage it can do to the club. I'm pretty sure that everyone from Patrick Cryne through to Simon Davey and even Rob Knowles, Rachel from marketting and Tony the kit man have the best interests of the club at heart, they have to do their job. But it doesnt mean that their decision making is always right does it? Rob makes mistakes in his job, i'm sure he'll admit to that. Rachel will make mistakes in hers. Davey has made more than his fair share and those at the top Don and Patrick will most likely admit to having done so as well. My point is that I believe that all of these statements and releases when an unpopular decision is made don't really help in attracting players to the club. Maybe the unknowns will come but what about those that are? They have more to lose. 'a ******* disgrace' refers to the fact that the statement isn't really clearing anything up as to why howard was dropped or whether sheff utd have come in for him, it doesnt include any quote or message from himself or davey or even PC, it is just a statement that discredits brian howard and I'm a firm believer that this isnt the best way to go about things. A statement issued to explain his omission from the squad (I know we can assume that is the reason but still) or to clear up whether there had been any offers turned down since the summer or anything like that. All it say's, seemingly at a random point in the season, is that Brian howard told them ages ago that he wanted to leave and reiterated that a week ago. I think it is a disgrace that such a statement is released which only focuses on one specific aspect whilst leaving so many other questions unanswered. I don't however believe that the statement was inaccurate like somebody else said, simply that it is too focused and shouldn't (in my opinion) have been released in that form as past statements along a similar line have not done the club any favours with supporters. I hope that makes sense to you and explained what I meant a little better.
I don't think the statement is inaccurate I just think it is vague (not necessarily deliberatly either, it could be a rush job after the weekends questions). Was brian advised of a rough figure that he could expect in any contract offer? if he was and he turned it down then that is different to him just saying he didnt want to discuss ANYTHING.
RE: The £10m unrealistic valuation can't have helped Watford valued Marlon King at £50million and they still sold him so that statement is complete B*ll*cks.
"don't forget why we signed Diego Leon" why did we? I thought it was because we were filling the squad with second rate Swiss league reserve players? Or perhaps I was wrong?
I dont think it can be called vague either. The two statements in it "...been prepared at all times to offer new contract terms....his representatives declined that opportunity." and "...did not wish to discuss a new contract with the reds" do not seem vague or ambiguous. neither give the impression that terms have been mentioned at all. Most contracts I assume are "negotiated" with compromises being the order of the day in most cases. If you wont sit down and discuss terms then it is impossible to reach any compromise.
It just reinforces for me that regardless what has been said by "those in the know" on here we didnt receive any offers for him in the summer.
RE: "don't forget why we signed Diego Leon"
Diego Leon is neither from the swiss league nor second rate.

RE: "don't forget why we signed Diego Leon" Signed from Grasshoppers of Zurich didn't he? In Switzerland?
The club have stated that no offers were received for Brian in the summer. Whether you believe it or not is up to you. If Brian wanted to leave so much, he could have requested a transfer. Financially, he would have lost out, but it depends on how much he wants to leave. The reason the statement has been released is to clear up why he was left out Saturday. Do we play someone who doesn't want to play for us? What would have happened had we lost? Remember the flak he took when we played the Fowls, just before the Chelsea game, because he didn't want to get booked? People on here were accusing him of not trying hard enough, and pulling out of tackles. To be honest, what could the club have said? And to say, as some are, that they don't believe it, surely says that there is no point in the club informing us about anything!
Word word word
Word word word word word word. Word word word word word word, word word word word word.

I agree with you and also with Jay I don't know the full story of what exactly happened and why, and I'm not going to speculate. We have some good midfield players (in my opinion). We appear to have got the defence sorted out. If we can use this issue to sort out a striker or so we may, just, improve the team. That said, Brian Howard is a good player and I would prefer it if he stayed but only if committed, fit and raring to go. Good luck to him and best wishes. I don't think he will play at a much higher level than us though.
he was left out of the squad as he didnt want to play for BFC again. thats as obvious as the nose on your face.
RE: "don't forget why we signed Diego Leon" Actually you might be right there, I bolloxed in a field at glasto when we signed him so can't recall.
