Who judges that? How long was Redders playing in hero status at the club before he left, one ,two seasons ? He's still an hero now
If we find ourselves struggling this season, I really, really hope people don't start saying it's because of who we lost in January. the fact of the matter is, if we hadn't lost them then, we would have done this summer no doubt. And we'd be several millions worse off *waits for 'we'd have gone up anyway', so that counterbalances it* As good as that team was, let's not forget we were never actually in the play-offs from September to January, and were actually 17th in December just 4 points above the bottom 3, close than we ever were in the 2nd half of the season. We went on a brilliant run in December, but I'm really not sure we'd have been able to maintain such form: October-November suggests we may not have done
Still in profit? So the rest of the playing squad, coaching staff, support staff etc don't want wages? Just pay those 6? There's also presumably no running costs for the stadium and academy/training ground, no electricity or water bills, corporation tax, policing costs. Nope, pure profit. Get your head out of the sand. Or somewhere else if it's there instead. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Thought he'd come for virtually nothing after Udders cancelled his contract and no one would touch him with a barge pole because of his 'problems', and we were desperate being at the bottom of L1 . Didn't we only sign him for a month or so initially then gave him a contract to the end of the season in January.
Begs the question why bother if all we can hope to be is a nursery club. In the past we have sold the odd star player not flogged the whole team it's daft to say we have. Anyhoo if the club raises the white flag it'll be unsurprising if we do the fans do the same. Sent from my iPad using Barnsley FC BBS Fans Forum
Enjoyed your post @Fonzie, it's a fair summary of what might happen. You could also assume the rest of the players would want 50% more as a result. But, devil's advocate... You now have all those players on 3 year deals and your projected spend is an extra 25 million. What you have to ask is, could we recoup that over the life of their contracts? I like to he positive, so I won't consider the 18 million that can be lost over 3 years by being relegated. Would we get significantly better gates with that team? Possibly, but probably not by a lot unless we're consistently challenging for the top 6. But if they'd continued to perform at the same level, how much would they be worth 12-18 months into those contracts? Hourihane alone I'd argue would be worth 12-15 million very quickly. So, there genuinely is an element of 'speculate to accumulate' - the trouble is, if it all goes tits up and it transpires that all of those players were having the year of their lives, then you've got a funding black hole that you're expecting our (ill) owner to guarantee. Most other clubs in the league are taking that very gamble, but as things stand, I'm glad we're not. Step back 2 years and the consensus on here was folk would rather see us live within our means, so long as he had an honest, hard working group we could take pride in than spend money on players we couldn't afford (and largely turned out to be a bunch of shysters). Can't have it both ways. I guess my view is that while the club could, in theory, take more risks, it isn't my money to gamble with, and we're probably not ready to do it. 'the plan' has essentially been too successful, too quickly. Maybe the next iteration of players can help us move to that level. Bottom line is, the game itself isn't sustainable any more. This. Again and again. As a stock response to mithering about selling players or not making 'quality signings'. Sent from my Moto G (4) using Tapatalk
I think we could wait until the season starts see where we are after 10 games and then if we are rubbish start panicking or if we are doing well enjoy the season. I for one don't really know at this moment in time how successful we or any other club are going to be this season. Sent from my GT-I9505 using Tapatalk
Huddersfield boss David Wagner has halted his 9 man £42.5 million spending spree thinking he might already have enough quality to survive in the Premiership. He has put on hold his previous ambitions to recruit Werder Bremen midfielder Zlatko Junuzovic and Barnsley full back Andy Yiadom whilst he fully assesses his squad who play Barnsley on Saturday. Wagner has said " I have no serious idea whether there is a genuine need to do more business. In the next few weeks we'll assess our own players before making any additions." Would it be wise to leave Yids on the bench this weekend.? We don't want to be refreshing Wagners interest do we.?
Huddersfield would need to put serious money on the table for me not to have Yids play out his contract 3 million plus. The club needs to stay strong. His contribution could be the difference and is worth alot more than the derisory insulting offer made to try and turn the player/agents head
I think its quite feasible we start the season with Yids in the team. I think if we do its highly likely his performances will attract even wider attention in January. If he is the player that we know, consistently in the first 5 months of the season we may lose him anyway, whether he has signed a new contract or not. I just hope he stays for now.
