    Why though mark?

    Shouldn't it be about ability?

Did people not see Bobby's performances at the end of last season? His ability shows he is still worth a proper championship contract. He is as good at CB as any other we have.

I hope Hassell signs a new contract and stays with the club. However, I'm not surprised he's been offered a lower wage given that he's no longer a key player for us.

He's a good utility player and an able back up but if we want to push on up the league I think we need to be looking at younger players. If he wants regular first team football then he'll need to go elsewhere, probably down a division.

I can't get angry or indignant about how low any of our players wages when first year pros and squad players get paid far more than the vast majority of the fans who pay those wages.

If I ever do then my priorities in life will be wrong

So what is the issue, the club have offered them both deals haven't they? Hassell for one year quite rightly, Steele for one year admittedly bizarrely. But they aren't being released. They have an offer of employment. They have a choice as to whether they think they can get a better deal elsewhere. So what's the indignation about if it isn't the financial offer?

I have no issue with people saying they want them to stay. I want them to. They're two of my favourite players. But there worth has been assessed by the club and I'm pretty certain that offer will be higher than the average income of Barnsley fans.

The indignation on my part is the lie, why come out and blame it on his age. Its just utter ****** and im shocked the club expected us to eat it up.

By all accounts the offers border on derisory but as i have no proof i cant really comment on that.

I just wish theyd come out and say for the money we feel wed get better value elsewhere not look steele is too old.

My judgement on Bobby Hassell is perhaps clouded by friendship, a fondness for he and his family. So I'm saying no more on it.
Luke - the 12 month offer, and the reasoning behind that is my issue.
But Flitcroft is paid handsomely to make the hard decisions, and for much of his tenure thus far he has got more right than wrong. And whatever happens, just like with Foz a few weeks ago, I have memories made that will last forever thanks to Bobby and Luke. So I've no qualms if they go, it's the way they'd be going that bothers me. But perhaps that makes me soft, too empathetic. Franky I don't care because as well as being pompous I am honest. :)

If I had a close personal connection I'm sure I'd feel similar too mate, and I'm not knocking that. But I do think the debate needs a bit of reality. The wages throughout football are obscene and are the reason it is so expensive to watch some men kick a ball round a pitch.

Mate, you know I've a lot of time for you.

But you don't half mention your relationship with certain players and their family even though you say nothing about it. You and Mark obviously heard of things that went on in the background particularly with Keith but personally I'd rather know nothing of both sides that part of one.

Totally understand your final point, Dyson. And believe me, I feel similarly. I wish I was told or knew nowt. Make supporting this club a lot easier again. But life is funny like that I suppose.
But because I've got time for you, too, I will try to stay out of certain threads. Probably easier to just allow folk to assume as they choose, and saves me looking a pompous know it all lovely person.
    .
And I've just finished work, in a warehouse - I'm so far removed from footballers and their lifestyles/wages. I'm merely in love, I didn't choose the circumstances and all the added nonsense. I'm as working class, as Barnsley as you'd find.
    .
And I promise to have sent you an email before the deadline. Just hectic with the new job and the other bit I told you about.
