Let's say it was to do with budget then why January was so crap, why didn't we just sit tight with the team we had that had us 5th in the table? We unsettled the goalkeeping situation which wasn't needed as Killip was performing, resulting in killip wanting to leave. Lofthouse was fitter and better than Lembikisa Cosgrove was arguably better than Rodrigues and was sent to a club in direct competition, it didn't but could have been costly. It appeared Clarke had to drive the signing of a unfit winger after the window closed, who's barely featured. It didn't take transfer funds to improve us, window after window It looks like we start planning recruitment as an after thought, let's get rid of players first and then have a look at what we can do mentality. To come out with "clement is someone we've been aware of for sometime" shows you the level of poor players we are looking at.
Has Nwakali really been a success ? He has a wonderful pass on him but defensively he's abysmal. Like he's invisible off the ball. Not a good tackler, not a great dribbler, can't shoot, set pieces he's taken has been poor. First few games he looked immaculate, to the point fans on here were saying he'd play in prem and wed lose him this summer. He might and we still may, but he's had a lot of very poor games too. I remember saying on here fans need to calm down because they're building him up so much after about 60 minutes of football, they'll end up being very disappointed if he doesn't perform at those first couple of games' standards consistently. And he hasn't.
Nwakali is a passenger most games. Neat with his passing but lightweight and generally non existent when we don’t have the ball. Another who needs offloading in the summer but not sure how….like many others.
Fair enough. For me, Killip just not good enough and lacked distribution qualities. Maybe they wanted Lofthouse to get plenty of game time ready for next year, and wasn’t sure how much he’d get here. Cosgrove - suspect it was his wages. Paying a lot for him each week and getting nothing. Easier to pay less and get nothing! No one here ever thought he’d be a threat leaving - and he hasn’t. A bit more comms over Lewis and Rodrigues would have helped. Simply explaining that Rodrigues was a risk free trial and wasn’t really here for this season. And explaining that Lewis was a pacey winger. It is hard for the club to reveal every detail - to an extent they have to be cautious to what players and other clubs hear. I just think better comms from whoever, takes a bit of heat away from Mladen straight away. None of us know how good/bad he is - the only comment to this was from Neerav the other week, who came out and said he’d done well and they were happy with him. I think that indicates that the issue is budget - and that because of that, we’re shopping at lower levels. Given money, he did well with DKD. People saying sack Mladen and also back Conor, are maybe not realising that we haven’t a pot to p!ss in. And it’s not the owner’s fault to a large degree - it’s the modern day game gone mad…..
Excellent post, I think the fan base would have had a lot more respect for those running the club if they'd have come out in January and said finances are really tight, we're struggling to fill the key roles identified but we will keep trying to get deals done. To add that if we don't manage to find the right deal to improve the squad then we will go with what we have to the EOS. Whilst it would have been frustrating to hear,.I would have accepted it. Instead Mladen **** himself and did 3 horrendous deals. He should be sacked just for January's debacle but instead we have Neerav saying he's doing a good job!
It surprised me the other day when somebody said, that they did back the previous manager/coach. But I don't think they did to be honest. Thinking back to the January window, not only did they not back Clarke then. They ended up getting the knives out again eventually, and sacking him. In our best form of the season at that time, and in 5th place. And just look at what's happened in the 3 months since then. Still, its great to know though that they are nice people and they mean well, and they have the best of intentions etc. Well that's a relief, because I was starting to get a bit worried there for a minute!.
When we sold Killip he was rated 3rd highest in the division based on data, we are a data driven club. Ref Budget, we have a bigger wage bill than Wycombe, Stockport, Leyton Orient and Reading who all sit above us in the table and could achieve promotion, remember last summers quote ? Significantly bigger budget. Recruitment has been poor, that falls under Mladen, there have been transfers happen in this division free transfers of out of contract players. His Loan signings (which haven't cost transfer fees) Craig - poor Slonina - poor Lembikisa- poor Rodrigues - poor This is before we start talking about the playing style, the dismissal of 2 head coaches and the horrendous home record of 8 home wins in 30 attempts, Neil Collins won 7 in 15 before sormaz was appointed, that's 8 wins between Collins, Devaney, Clarke and Hourihane, it isn't coincidence, something is fundamentally wrong.
Just because Nareev says Sormaz is doing a good job doesn’t mean that he his. Nareev is just defending his own decision in appointing Sormaz who has been utterly poor in the recruitment department for me.
