I'm a fan of his, but how can you say he 'like's the big occasion'?

We've hardly seen him play, oh wait you've seen him in some reserve game's right.....

With Darren 'I can't run' Moore we'll let alot more in too. He need's Foster alongside him - I don't care what anyone say's.

    14 Weeks .....

to prepare for the big ko and we have a plum 1st game away at Hillsborough and we're talking about throwing the kids in !!!

Pretty shambolic preperation for the season if you ask me .... unless something changes in the next week that is.

Did you enjoy the shambolic performance on Saturday?

Bit harsh to describe our pre-season as "shambolic".

Ok yeah .... bit harsh maybe

I'll accept your point but it was more a reference to player recruitment.

Pre-season (in my book anyway) is about fitness & integrating new players and working on systems for the new season.

Assuming we bring in new faces this week it's hardly ideal to introduce them to their new team mates Friday and send them out to play with them on Saturday.

If you think that's ideal then we'll just have to agree to disagree.

With regards Saturday the performance was pretty good but I still don't want Butterfield in the starting 11 for Saturday as he's not ready ..... in my opinion that is !

I didn't claim it was "Ideal"

It would have been better if we had signed players earlier, but many clubs are in the same position as us with lack of signings. I still think we will do OK with the squad we have, the young players a year older and a couple of new signings. New signings in mid-season, and loan signings, have to slot straight into an unknown team, and I think good players can do that - Luke Steele at Anfield for example.

As regards Butterfield I've been impressed with him each time I have seen him, but there's not much to go on as he has not played very often. Sooner or later though he is going to have to be given a run otherwise there is no point in him and young players like him being at the club.

    I can see it being...

    Anderson and JCR :'(
And disco and (hopefully) Hammill out wide, hope not like, i'd give Butterfield a go, after saturdays performance, i think he's ready.

    JCR Anderson Butterfield Devaney

the only problem i have with that midfield is Devaney, who's looked off it. but its Sheff Weds so im sure he'll be up for that!

    How does that work then?

Butterfield was considered by davey to be suitable to play against chelsea and in the FA cup semi final at wembley but two years later he's not developed enough to play a league game?

He didnt start either of those games

and anyone who thinks pre season friendlies are any indication of ability to compete in that caldron on Sat is mental. He wont get 5 seconds to trap the ball, look up and find an easy pass. He'll have Potter and the likes straight through him if he tries. Laws will have them ready, his teams always know how to mix it.

Butterfield has got potential, it seems, and Im not saying should we be in a position to, that he shouldnt get on the pitch with the game won, but to start with him would show how thin our squad actually is.

If we are serious about finishing in the top half or higher, our central midfield 2 against City arent good enough. Simple.

We are not talking about a friendly against a team from 2 leagues down, we are talking about a side that generally fecking beat us and because we beat them last season they will be raring to go and try and rip us to bits. We need the best players in their best positions FACT !!!!!

So what you are saying is that Davey has done an awful job in getting us ready for the new season

Hes depleted our squad to such an extent that we do not have 11 fit players capable in your opinion of starting the season in 5 days time.

I agree with you which is why I think he should be sacked.

ok then, with the team we've got, who would you play? bearing in mind that we hardly have any central midfield cover apart from Butterballs at the moment, unless you want Bobby or JCR moving in?

    I expected that response

and I'll be straight, if you had said to me back in May that we'll start this season with OddJob up front and Butterfield in central midfield I'd have said then Davey wants fking. But this summers transfer market has been extraordinary in the sense that hardly any business has been done for the majority of clubs, as yet. I absolutely agree with being patient and sticking to the players you've identified as the right ones, rather than panicing just to get numbers in. I also dont believe that transfer dealings these days are entirely the remit of the manager, so you are as usual being totally unfair and irrational in your criticism of Davey. He'll know more than anyone that if we start the season badly, the knives will be straight out, he's got everything at stake and so Im still hopeful that we'll add to the squad with players capable of stepping straight in prior to Saturday.
