Bournemouth has a much bigger catchment area and less locals rivals to dilute the fanbase. Depending on the direction you go, they are the only football club for uo to 90 miles. We have 4-5 rivals within 20 miles that in the same division as us this season or next and the majority have all been more successful than us in the past and have larger crowds - and there is a still good chance that one will be in a higher division next season.
I'm pretty sure we will end up in safe hands. Can't see overseas buyers being that interested in Barnsley. Although Bournemouth were a small club, they are in a pretty wealthy area & a nice part of the country to visit, which will have appealed I'm sure. It's all guesswork though at this stage. I wonder if the Council may be involved with some sort of consortium, given they co own the ground?
i think I would be cautiously optimistic as my glass is usually half full, however, nothing is straight forward for example, a big club like Forest keep lining up take over deals only to see them collapse so until a deal is cut & dried its hard to come to a conclusion,
You do realise it was Barnsley budgeting on "guaranteed" income before the collapse of ITV digital that caused us to fall into administration. I just want an owner who doesn't gamble our long term future on short term potential "glory" or "financial gain" (delete whichever depending on whether new owner is in it for "hobby or "business"). I love our club because it feels like it's for and part of the community. These 18 months have highlighted the joy our small club can bring to many, in otherwise rather bleak times. I hope in 30 years time I'm sat discussing the same issue with my son. Too many clubs chasing the "premiership dream", cutting links with their community, abandoning youth development, importanting average foreign players or expensive kids with no link or grounding with the local community. I've never loved or felt closer to this club than this year. Glory is a bonus. And 2 Wembley trips has been an absolute joy to experience. I hope there may even be more in the future. But for now, as long as we give Hecky as much financial support as we can without endangering the long term stability of the club, I am a more than happy fan. If for whatever reason the board take the decision not to look to maintain and build from our current position, with sensible investment of both playing staff and club infrastructure, then I would call for a change. As there has never been a better time to invest in the long term future of our club without putting us in any serious financial risk.
I think the Cryne family have earned the right to relax more away from the club, so if they sold it I would wish them all the best. Foreign owners get a bad reputation but many of them have been excellent too. I'd be quite happy with a club that spends what it makes so makes more effort to increase revenue, so the only way we ever break even in a financial year isn't when we have to weaken our team with a sale. Many of us want to see the club play premiership football again or what's the point. But as we currently do business that's no chance of happening.
I don't want someone to come in with tons of money, buy a load of good players and cheat our way to the Premier League. Obviously I don't want us to be losing money every year and struggling but if I had to do it one way, I'd choose that. If an incredibly rich person bought us and we were Champions League in a few seasons, would it even feel like Barnsley? Sure, I'd love us to get there if we did it the proper way, I'd never be prouder, but buying our way there? Nah, not for me thanks.
At this moment we have someone in charge who has the best interests of the club at heart. Foreign investors will see it as a business, and if the business fails will pull the plug. If I was a Bournemouth fan, I would be wary of what could happen if they go down.
I just heard the same rumour I mentioned earlier from a different person regarding something in the pipeline for a takeover from the people behind CK Becketts and Bapp Bolts. Quite possible I guess, but as I said before, probably purely random rumours.
Saw or heard an interesting conversation with Jamie Carragher worried that all the money was going to the south. Some talk of Newcastle setting up a training ground in London to attract investment and players - with team just going up to play matches! Brighton, promoted - maybe with Fulham and Reading. Sunderland, Boro and possibly Hull relegated. Chelsea, Spurs, Arsenal and a Manchester team ( effectively southern!) dominating in the coming years. We'll be left with Rugby league up North (that is unless Catalan Dragons plus new Harlequins franchise doninate.). It's grim up North!!
