I can't disagree with the comments about the final third Nudger to be honest, having now watched the game, but I don't agree with the conclusion.

We've been treated to some stellar stuff this season, but with enforced changes, even with a larger squad, I still think we'd see the fluctuating performances we have at present. I also think we need to consider that the players are feeling increasingly nervous, just as we are in the stands.

For what it's worth, I'm not convinced this is anything unusual. When we were promoted in 1981, with what I am sure most from that time would consider one of our best ever sides, we only won 5 of our last 17 matches, starting with the defeat at Huddersfield in early February which ended a long unbeaten run. And two of the 5 wins were our last two matches. We drew 7 and lost 5, so arguably it was the ability to avoid defeat that got us over the line?

When Andy Ritchie took us up, I think we only won 1 of our last 10 home matches, drawing the other 9.

And even more recently, during the run-in to winning the play offs under Heckingbottom, if I recall correctly, we had some iffy performances at home to Southend (L), Chesterfield (L), Scunny (D) and Colchester (D), and a couple of goalless draws away at Sheff Utd and Burton.

It's the beauty and frustration of football. Walsall were 4 points from 12th spot prior to kick off. I don't think we should expect, or really want, every game to be a free flowing walkover. What our players have shown is that they have an ability to steamroller teams when it all clicks, but fight for precious points when things aren't going as planned. That to me is also the sign of a good team.
