I think that alot of you want Ritchie to stay for the long haul just so that we can have stability not because he is right man for building our future.

He is unproven at this level but he has signed good players and got the playing well, but tactically he is not with it!

Come on then tactic Genius , you havent explained his limitations yet.

Give me a name of someone you would like instead of Ritchie then?

I didn't realise that Ritchie was so adored, the people i have spoken to at games think that he is untried at this level and that they wouldn't be upset to see him go.

All i said was that the board offering him a new contract now is madness because he is untried at this level and should he fail then the club would be in trouble, so i am with GS on this one!

I want Ritchie to stay 'cos he's got us promoted in his first full season mate and we've taken seven points out of our first fifteen which is a fantastic start to the season...

There's only one way unproven managers get proven - simple as...

Not only that, who's going to replace him?

    Exactly!

Are we gonna become like the Washday - constantly harping on about how the board should bring in a big name 'cos we're a "big" club? Lost in our delusions of grandeur...

Show some faith, loyalty, gratitude and general decency - keep Ritchie!!!

I think that you are all being a bit hysterical about my suggestion. I didn't say that he should be sacked, i just suggested that the board are been a bit cautious with a manager who is untried at championship level and are waiting to see how he does this season before offering him a contract because his tactics yesterday suggested that we may have a problem against the better teams in this league.

Hysteria has nowt to do with it...

Reward the manager on what he's already done not what he might wind up doing. All evidence so far points to us staying up anyway and that would definitely be mission accomplished...

That's the point, the board are waiting to see if he can cut the mustard at this level and if he turns out to be a success then he will almost certainly be offered a new contract, but if he isn't up to it then they can let go for nothing which i think is sound thinking in my book.

If he was given a 3 year contract tommorrow and we lost the next 5 games and went to the bottom of the table and ultimatley went down then Ritchie will have failed to prove that he is good enough at championship level and we may not come straight back up and we will be stuck with him for the forseable future!

You aren't suggesting we sack Ritchie, just dont offer him a new contract.

Is that not much the same thing in the long run?

Fine if we are going to get specific about this then yes if we go down then we should sack him, but if we do well and stay up then he should be given a new contract simple as!

I am not sure he is adored,

I just think the fans after sitting through 5 or 6 years of going nowhere dross , finally see us as on the up and on the way to a decent level of performance. Therefore they are not gonna sit back and read people hammering Ritchie for attempting to try and get something out of a game , when you appear think that we should should have accpeted our defeat 12 minutes into the game.

Who do you really want in charge come on , fess up.

Lets hear the "name" you want.

You sound to me like someone who would want a Joe Royle type in charge.

I do see what you're driving at but I still disagree...

I just think we should so some faith and confidence in the bloke - confidence breeds confidence and a new contract would be an expression of that.

Not only that even if we were relegated Ritchie is the man to take us back up. Why a*se about with a new manager, new players, new system etcetera when Ritchie and the lads have the mustard to do it again?

    We aren't going down anyway...

What if Ritchie got the maximum out of the club you could get ,

    but still went down.

    Would that be his fault?

Do you know the constraints he is working under?

    Garbage

Clubs that sack their manager every time there's a downturn fare no better than clubs that don't. FACT.

How many managers have we sacked over the last ten years? And did it get any better under the next man? Did it f*ck.

It's really a modern thing, this 'sack the manager' syndrome, born out of the fact that younger people have absolutely no patience. "I want it and I want it now". Well get this - football doesn't work like that. LIFE doesn't work like that. As you'll one day find out.

In the meantime I suggest you look at the stats and see how we performed when we WEREN'T a sacking club. (Clue: we've spent more years in the second tier than any other club).

    Rant over.

I don't know who is available at the moment, but now you mention Joe Royle he would be a good choice!

    RE: Garbage

    That's total rubbish

If we do go down then Ritchie is definatley NOT the man to take us back up because he will be no good at championship level so we would make absolutley no progress!

Now I know you are a wind up.

If it was 1996 I might want Joe Royle in charge , however is style of play is not conducive to making progress in todays football.
