like you say it was thatcher who decimated the north of England,so i'm not quite sure how you get that scargill did more harm than good. thatcher had the whole wealth of the country at her disposal to beat the miners, whereas scargill was acting upon the directive of the members.I was a miner at cortonwood,it was the closure of our pit that started the strike,we went for support from the rest of the pits, scargill didn't do anything..
So you don't remember him not allowing maintenance crews into the pits (edit) during the strike (end of edit) even though he knew that this action would mean those pits would never re-open. If thats not being directly responsible and by default agreeing for those pits closing I don't know what is. Guys a lovely person. Whatever you think of Thatcher - Scargills a prize lovely person. Had plenty of chances to end the strike. Plenty of chances to save jobs and communities. If he truly knew what Thatchers plans were. If he truly knew what she was capable of. If he truly wanted to save jobs why didn't he go begging on his hands and knees with an offer to work with the Govt. Cos he's a self important egotistical lovely person. And I've got a bottle of champers on ice for the day that lovely person dies.
Do you know that you never answered my question Not sure what relevance your comment has if any I once asked the queen round for tea , she never answered !
what a load of ******,,,name me one pit that closed as a result of being stood down for one year, and also give me one example of 'maintenance' crews being prevented from entering a pit.which fukin comic did you read that out of.
On a tv show where Arthur scargill was interviewed by Muriel gray walking around round green Arthur scargill said it himself
He was deadly serious. And credit to him he refused to be bought off. She then gave McGregor the job and the rest is history
I meant in my views his 'strident political views' didnt endear your average miners plight to those he needed support from.
Ive answered it, the miners deserved someone better than Scargill, at least in the art of public relations. You cant fight a government and one sided media when you have a man with his views. Just my view, happy to be wrong.
I disagree but tbh no one else would have taken the mantle we would have been sold down the river as on other occasions pre Scargill ad maybe the pit closure would have come earlier and without a whimper
it wouldn't have mattered had we had the queen mother as president of the num, thatcher was out for revenge, simple as that.
