Eh? I queried it and he said that was what he meant.

Thanks for that NYR. Imagine how we would feel if the scum element near us (there are some, even in Harrogate) did something like that at the Cenotaph in town. I would certainly be outraged as were the good people of Edinburgh. Same when those cretins damaged that wonderful display in Barnsley Churchfields.

These are not just crimes of vandalism. It goes way beyond that. I know my original post went a bit too far but I make no apologies for that. No punishment exists in the courts to deal with such low lifes. I don’t know what the answer is but I despair that I have to read such stories, knowing that the same, and worse, will happen time and time again.

It was ever thus, happened in the 80s and 90s in Hoyland.

Oh I know there is nothing new in it but it does seem to be getting worse. It's not always kids/teenagers doing the crimes, throwing fire works at fire engines, attacking ambulances when they are attending incidents etc etc. Plenty of "grown ups" belong to the brain donor category of human beings as well so it's impossible to blame just one section of society.

As I said above our justice system cannot seem to cope with it all. They're swamped with criminal cases at all levels but this latest outrage in Edinburgh makes my blood boil. Those that did it are pond bottom dwelling, scum sucking creatures of the lowest order. I hope that a bit of summary justice is meted out on them if their identities are made public. I know that's vigilante style justice but they deserve nothing better. I bet many of those who paraded past all the war memorials up and down the country, paying their respects to fallen comrades, would happily join in.

Our Remembrance Parade at the weekend in Sale was chock a block with young people, in the bands, cadet force, scouts, cubs, beaver and girl guides, hundreds of them.

Not all is doom and gloom, not all of the next generation are bad.

You could put them besides the ex servicemen/womn who make the poppies. Listening to their stories might just make them think about serving others.

As was the one in Barnsley. More good kids than bad.
It's like football fans getting tarnished with the same brush. It's a terrible accusation to put on all. When nothing could be further from the truth. I for one have kids and grandkids that have not brought shame to my door. (Mischievous but not ott.) As I suspect most on here will say the same.

I'd wonder why some ***** would go out and get bladdered just cos a girlfriend finished with him.
Probably a lucky escape on most occasions lol.
No excuse to act like a moron. Plenty of us have been bladdered. No excuse that kind of behaviour.
And deserves punishment of some kind. The punishment should fit the crime. Short sharp shock in this case and all costs of repair.

Absolutely agree. Some sort of community service, preferably extremely unpleasant to carry out while putting something back into society, would seem ideal. Not life in prison.

You always get some knobheads. They should be taught the error of their ways rather than lynched.

I have nothing but respect for those who gave their lives, but the fetishising of it also troubles me. Would you also advocate lynching for racism or homophobia? Both of those are problems which are bigger black marks on modern society than disrespecting those who died in the wars.
