Thankyou to everyone in this thread for the kind messages. It has been a tough week for the Archey family. Todays performance had me welling up at full time knowing full well my dad would have enjoyed that one today.
Jeez, really sorry to read that sad news, Chris. A lovely post though, in terms of the meaning of the club to you. To all of us I guess. It’s usually about family isn’t it? That’s essentially what we all are, family. Congratulations on the other, happy news. You can only do what’s right for you and yours buddy. But I hope the club gives you reason to prolong the agony (and very occasional ecstasy).
Condolences along with all the other lovely messages. Struck a chord with me when you mentioned your Dad inflicting it on you. Mine too. It's in the blood and I'm guessing that your new born will have it in theirs too. It's a very special thing we have and all the Dads up there are still with us in spirit, especially on match days! x
Lovely post. If you don’t mind me asking what was your dad’s name. Sounds a crap question but I worked with an Archey who was a massive red.
Really sorry to hear about your loss, mate. We dont know each other personally, but I really enjoy conversing on here with you and reading all your comments, and you seem a top bloke. A sad time in your life but soon you will bring new life into your family and I wish you all the best and many Happy years!
I said that. Then they become a very convenient excuse for a day out - my lad isn't 4 yet and been 4 or 5 times this season. Use the tools in your arsenal. Congrats and condolences mate.
Sorry for your loss Archey. This actually brought a few tears on mate, took me back to Feb 2023, my dad had just passed and me and my youngest travelled back to England for his funeral. We managed to see a game v Derby whilst back there and guess what we won 4-1! My Dad's passing wasn't how we wanted our 1st time back in 10 years to be about but I am sure he would have loved that his grandson got to see a good win in his first live game at Oakwell. In regards to renewing, I know it's not the same but I will be paying for streaming again, to get up at 1.30 a.m to watch us. Can't help it I am the other side of the world but sometimes wish I was in Barnsley with my mates on a Saturday afternoon, beers in town and then watch the match. Much love pal and congrats on the Bub
His name was Dave Arch. He worked in a warehouse in Chapeltown in distribution for M&S (I forget the name of the company) though he retired about 6/7 years ago.
Hi Archey. Sorry to hear that. I worked with Dave for many years. Not many reds there so we always enjoyed talking football. Sorry for your loss. If you have no objections I will let his old colleagues know of his passing. Still a fair few there that knew Dave.
Pretty sure I worked with your Dad many years ago when it was Christian Salvesen down at Thorncliffe. Condolences to all. Top bloke.
It was salvesens the ND, Xpo now Gxo but always M&S. I started in the mid 90s so worked with Dave for many years. I still work there so you must have been there at same time as me.
He was there from about 94 until he retired, I think in 2018/19. Please feel free to let his former colleagues know. He did keep in touch with a group of them, who he regularly met up with for a pint on a monthly basis, and I know a couple of them have posted on Facebook about him.
I only worked there for a year pal. Still good memories of it though. Some top lads - even with the amount of Weds fans
