RE: Mmm.

I have to say that if I'd been the manager of the squad of players we had at the start of the season and I was offered the likes of McCann, Mattis, Eckerthing, Leon Knight, then I'd have said no.

I'd have tried for established Championship/Prem level players and gone for quality rather than quantity. But it's all hypothetical.

My opinion of our "cover":

2 keepers - Letheren isn't good enough for the first team
2 centre backs - Reid too slow, Atkinson not ready
0 right backs - Bobby better in the middle, Austin not good enough
0 left backs - Hecky not good enough for this league, Eckersley doesn't want to be here
3 midfield players - McCann, K Reid, Mattis, Williams, Tonge, Wroe simply not good enough
1 striker - and he's not in the squad ... Richards & Nardy not Championship quality ... the two Hippo's I can't comment on yet

Fairly balanced 3rd division squad I'd say, and sufficient to absorb injuries, fatigue and suspensions that will start to rack up between now and April - although every replacement will be useless. Mental strength is another matter - and the way we've surrendered games since Simon has been in charge (which we never did with Ritchie) worries the **** out of me.

If we go into the last 4 games needing 5 wins, we'll have a very VERY good chance of going down, I'd say.

No he wasn't

He made his debut at 16 for Everton and I don't think he was loaned to anyone.Beckham might have been a better example as he went on loan to Preston ,I think but we are probably talking Nardiello level

Fair enough- more like 24 months- but the point was that...

...you can't judge someone on their lack of experience

Everybody seems to be assuming that Nyatanga will be straight into the team! I'm not so sure - bench I would think for starters. His name brings a mixed response from Sunderland supporters - "utter *****" being the most memorable - but 10 of the 11 games he played for them were at left back!

That's exactly what I am saying. people are judging new signings

to improve the team without seeing them play. They might improve it, they might weaken it, we don't know yet.

No Togwell = no chance

Amazed a fully badged up coach continues to put out the worst central midfield in living memory.

Ah, but ...

... his badges are from the cubs.
He's got knot tying, fire making & orienteering.
The football one is taken in the Scouts, which he hasn't done yet.

My team:

Letheren
Austin Reid Atkinson Hecky
Togwell Williams Mattis McCann
Nardy Coulson

If you're going down - go down with a smile.

Talks A good game and has Badges

Sounds like Spackman... Same old problem , tactically inept, players not happy with his selections,no consistency, and crap results , oh and relegation at the end of it, is that positive enough.
