Why does it have to be open every game? Why not when necessary? What do you think costs money? They just shut the dividing gate, open the turnstiles at the East Stand end put some netting down the seats and hire a few more stewards.
I don’t know, but I do know that if you’ve left it this late you; A) not really bothered B) can’t expect to sit in the best seats C) should have realised that top of the league, possible promotion team final home game will be busy.. I would like the seats to be opened, but it does my head in when people start whinging because they have to sit away from their mates at their first match of the season...,
It would probably have cost a couple of grand or so tops to put a few hundred people in the north stand. This cost would easily have been recouped but why bother, they're only potential fans of the future.
Is the block in the EL near the away end being used today? Always think it’s crazy that we keep that closed when barely any away fans come to Oakwell.
There will be some goddamn awful seats occupied today. Those where you can't see a quarter of the pitch because of the dugouts, those where posts are covering either or both goals, the front row behind the goal with a worm eye view through netting etc. Meanwhile huge swathes of seats with an excellent view are unavailable. A great match day experience.
I understand that Marlon and I'm not specifically having a go at the club. The fact remains we have a stadium that was built to house 23000 fans and never can. Not anywhere near. Big games dont come that often but often enough. The occasional fans end up not gettinģ in. A disincentive to becoming more than occasional. If we don't go up automatically there's another big game a couple of weeks away. Plus, to return to my point about the West Stand. I've sat in it twice in my lifetime, both on glorious sunny days. There's no way I'd fancy it in the rain and yet there's a yawningly half empty North Stand, covered and with great views that we're not allowed to use. It's daft.
Have we announced a sell out yet to stop people turning up? It's going to be interesting to see how many in the North Stand celebrate when we score....
If it were that easy I think it would have been done tbh. Demand on tickets has obviously only shown last few days not enough time to put the measures you suggest in place , I wouldn’t imagine they can make these provisions overnight . S York’s police have to be informed and resources and planning put into place and imo demand on tickets wouldn’t have been evident to do this . Plus the stewarding company would need time to organise extra bodies . If this had happened last week had we lost at Plymouth and we’d ordered and paid for these resources
Plymouth had their fans at the side of us with just a bit of netting inbetween.. Agree that the North Stand should be used .
As I’ve said earlier it needs time and planning for stewards and policing and staff catering etc and if we’d lost st Plymouth after these were ordered there wouldn’t be 12,000 there
Well it makes little sense to me to have vast swathes of empty seats with no plan to efficiently and cheaply use them should the need arise yet call a game a sell out.
For all we know there only be a few that wanted to come missing out . I don’t know how the club calculate demand maybe the vast majority of non season tickets only sold midweek . If that’s the case how can club call on exterior resources at short notice ? I’m not saying this is the case but I’m sure demand on police and stewards doesn’t fall into place overnight and as I say if we’d lost at Plymouth we wouldn’t be having these threads
I would have hoped a business with a multimillion pound turnover has plans for whether we win or lose at Plymouth. You're making it sound like an impossible task, hosting a football match and seating the spectators when you have more than enough seats for everyone. It really isn't. Or shouldn't be. And if anyone wants a drink at half time today...
Yes a còuple of grand: 8 stewards say and a couple of coppers to police barnsley's menacing family hordes against the infamous blackpool terror squad
If it was as simple as that it would have been done for today Jay. It’s really not. The council, police and whatever would have to sign off. The safety certificate is for use only as an away stand for this season. I agree this should be looked at long term, as should the west stand (in my view demolish it and start again), but for this season? No. I appreciate people like you and Nudger miss out - but there would unlikely have been any more than 500 to 1000 more attending, and only for today. It would have had to have been sorted months ago, maybe even before the season started. It would have cost a lot of money which would not have been recouped. The club aren’t going to turn away support without reason. Your point is valid long term, but for today, sorry it’s not.
I’m not making it sound an impossible task imo just as I don’t think your posts are making sound as though the club arent filling the seats for spite. I’ve already said I don’t know the reasons tbh just quoting some reasons as to why they may not have been able to fill the empty seats . I’d say with the knowledge of the situation we both have both our views could be valid or not .
