Have a look on ebay, my dad went to Milton Keynes to pick one up £750 which was in mint condition and saved £600 off the RRP, if you have a rough idea what you want there may be a bargain if you have the patience to look.
One bit of advice...don't buy the lycra stuff in an attempt to look like Wiggins....its ok if you're doing 30mph downhill, but you look a right divvy when you're having to push it up from Stairfoot roundabout
Cheers lads. I've only got that much because I want to get the bike and full kit too and I know decent gear isn't cheap. It's through that scheme so works out at about £5/600 over 12 months so works for me. I'm gonna get a hybrid and looking at a turbo trainer too for the house - I'm doing a bit of running at the minute and my body is f.cked so want something with a bit less impact. I've got limited places where I can spend it so gonna visit each one locally. Sithi.
Hi Dyson, I go to J E James in Rotherham for all my bike stuff, at the moment i'm on a Felt F95, really good light bike. the staff there are very helpful and will sort you out, they do lots of the bike to work schemes as they are quite a few different schemes. http://www.jejamescycles.co.uk/felt-f95-road-bike-matt-anthracite-id74391.html
The one thing I wouldn't be stingy on is cycling shorts, especially if you get a road bike with a hard saddle.
Get thissen a Cytronex electric bike. I was after one on my old firms "cycle to work" scheme but they pulled the plug on it (when the bust happened in 2008). http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cHU7qBZSsfk Look the same as a normal bike but with a large water bottle.
£400 bike @ £14 a month?? I take it that's over more than a year then? I've just bought one through Cycle To Work - £325 comes in at £27 a month for a year, the saving coming in your reduced tax & NI contributions.
