Yes they will probably lose nearer 10 million than 65 million. But is that what you want for us to go millions in debt. As I said they don't even know how much debt they currently have.
They're six weeks away from a multi million pound windfall. How will things shape up for them in the future? Who knows. If they are sensible they could be financially secure for years. Or they could just blow it all. On the 23rd March 2014 it looks like the gamble will pay off for them.
What like it has for QPR and Blackburn and Bolton and Portsmouth and Coventry? So your solution in how to compete would be to get into vast amounts of debt (if we can find anyone daft enough to lend it us), find a benefactor willing to spend a million quid a month like Gibson at Boro just to keep us afloat (again good luck finding that) and cross our fingers that we didn't go bust. Great strategic planning. I'd rather wait for quite a few of them to go bust myself.
Well then explain how we can compete attracting the better players against clubs willing to do so or how we can retain our better players when clubs will pay them daft money that they can't afford without getting into massive amounts of debt. An average club like Bournemouth spent £2.5 million on a forward this season. Our entire squad cost less than half that. Within that there is nothing to stop a good manager with a long term plan developing young players and nurturing talent and taking a team forwards above the place where we would naturally sit based on income levels ( top 8 in League 1 by my reckoning).
Our plan whether you agree with it or not is to live within our modest means and adhere to FFP. Where we have fallen down IMO is by not prioritising youth development and integration above all else at the same time.
The undisclosed fee they paid for someone who scored seven goals in Sweden? Consider me sceptical. By my reckoning we should have the third or fourth highest budget next season behind Sheffield United, Bristol City and Charlton if they come down.
Can I congratulate you on such a well argued discussion. You have made all the points that I have made over and over, and made them so much better than I ever have.
