People have been saying that since the Paraguay game ...

... and we are still winning. Presumably if we win the World Cup 'ugly' then the same people will be saying we don't deserve it ?

It's all about winning and if we win 'ugly' then I for one will be happy. Lots of teams would trade places with us in a blink of an eye

    Nice response

That's your opinion. I can't share your optimism. We'll play one more game in this World Cup before we go home. The sooner Sven goes, the better.

    That would be true

If I didn't think his replacement was going to be even worse.

What would Gus Hiddink do with this team!

I'd genuinely rather play well and lose

    **** the result.

    Surely that's a contradiction in terms ?

I heard last night that in the build up to the world cup (i.e. the year building up) Mexaco played the most games (22), and that we (England) played the least (9). I think it shows. We have excellent individuals, but the team as a unit looks hastily prepared and sometimes a bit strange with each other. It's a bit like the gifted pupil sitting an exam having done no revision - with good preparation we could expect top marks, but have we done enough? At the moment we're scraping by, nothing special.

I think that we ought to have put the FA cup, league cup and all other domestic competitions other than league calander to one side and spent that time on the national squad, but hindsight is a wonderful thing.

On the plus side, Carrick looks superb in that holding role and Hargreaves looks good at right back. Lennon came on and did an excellent job for the last five, and Wayne Rooney is a genius.

Still don't believe in the manager, but COME ON ENGLAND! Today was a bit more like it!

    RE: That would be true

too true. I fear that with McClaren taking over from Sven, English football is about to repeat the misery of Graham Taylor, who was also out of his depth.

i know there are some idiots on here but you take the biscuit. Are you really as much of a lovely person as you sound

Performance doesn't matter its winning that counts. have we lost yet? No. So we continue on like this and win the world cup. sounds good to me

Why are some people on here so anti english (and barnsley come to think of it). get behind em!!!!

    Pathetic

That you have to resort to personal abuse because you don't agree with someones opinion. Maybe if you want to join in a debate you should come up with a reasoned response instead of the childish name calling.

I'd love you to point out where I said I want Barnsley to fail though, I couldn't give a flying f*ck about England and this World Cup, it's an over publicised competition that after the first 1 or 2, gets very boring indeed, especially as an England "supporter".

"it's an over publicised competition that after the first 1 or 2, gets very boring indeed"

Well I've watched every World Cup since 1974, and watched virtually every game in each of them (and can vaguely recall seeing games in the 1970 one), can't say that I've ever found it boring. Greatest sporting event in the World.
If you don't like it then fine, don't watch it, but to see some of the games greatest players over the course of a month and to watch teams you normally wouldn't get chance to see is great. I also like watching the coverage of the qualifying groups on Eurosport.
