if our long term objective is to keep finishing within 4 or 5 points (at best) of relegation then yes, simon davey is highly successful. If we are attempting to improve year on year then he has been a failure so far.
bloody hel IOWT, I think you've just explained Davey's tactics it must be feng shui that dictates playing strikers in midfield, right backs at left back, centre backs at right back, and internationals in peru.
what was it then? promotion, champs league, no sorry he should have won euro 2008!!? Get real sunshine!
how about mid table? Or maybe just maybe, finishing MORE points clear of relegation than in the previous year? We finished CLOSER to getting relegated last season than the year before, if that is success then i'm going to give up now before we call success finishing on 7 points.
Niall Quinn took up the duties as manager At the start of the season. Colchester & Scnuthorpe kept their managers last season and went down. However, QPR & Norwich changed their managers when in the relegation places and survived. In fact, we did the same in 2006/07. Instead of querying the number of managers we've set on since parting company with Danny Wilson, I'd suggest we question the quality of those appointed. As someone posted last week, not one of all those managers is still employed in a similar capacity anywhere else and none have had any success at any other club. Not one. We've lost 20 of the 37 league games since Simon Davey was granted his new contract, winning a mere 8. Also, we've won just 3 out of the last 30 away games in the league. This suggests, in my opinion, that we're not having a simple blip in form and it's been going on for long enough to show it's unlikely to change in the future. The league is our bread and butter, not the cup and it's on the league results we should judge every manager. Seeing as our last cup performance was a defeat against a poor Crewe side struggling in the relegation places in Division 1, perhaps that's a good thing.
RE: bloody hel IOWT, I think you've just explained Davey's tactics What like they play Runaround with SD playing the part of cheeky cockney chappie Mike Read and wherever they stop is their position on match days. RRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRUNAROUND.
2nd season back after 4 year away from the championship and near financial turmoil we should get rid of the manager because he did not improve on the previous years perfromance by huge amount and not mid table but only achieved a higher league position, 5 more points and a cup run which put BFC back in the national eye for the first time since the premier league days! I see, have words with yourself!
RE: Niall Quinn took up the duties as manager I'm not disagreeing with that I am simpley stating that fans are so negetive sometimes that they give the impressions they would rather see BFC lose to get shot of SD! People can argue this all day some like SD some don't some just do not care that much, the majority of fans will get behind the team and club its just a shame that the ones who moan seem to make the most noise!
Oh I agree, mate I'll give everyone at the club my 100% backing when at the match tomorrow night and, no matter what division we're in, I'll be getting a season ticket again next summer. For me, this is the best place to vent my spleen against the club, as I don't really see what can be constructively achieved by booing players during a game. Once the final whistle has gone, though, that's a different matter. I've thoroughly enjoyed arguing/debating these issues with you and I would suggest we've done it without resorting to immature, childish abuse simply because the other person has a different opinion.
Can't see SD turning it round His record's very poor - that's fact, not opinion. What CAN he do to turn things? New tactics? More inspiration to motivate the players? He MUST have tried all this in his many games in charge and there's been no improvement. He said there'd be a turn-around when he had a fully fit squad - there's been nothing of the sort, quite the contrary, there's been a slump. He played his ace card when Anderson da Silva came back, and that's failed at present. He's way off form. Someone tell me HOW SD will turn it round in time before we are cut adrift. What's he going to do in the future that he hasn't tried already?
RE: Oh I agree, mate again I agree, the whole original post was not to back SD or get fans behind him but to say I'd rather he turned it around that us firing him, given a choice I think some fans would prefer to get shot of him rather than for him to be succesful to keep their pride in tact!
Personally I hope he suddenly becomes the best manager Barnsley have ever had. That would mean the club I love is successful.
