To be fair Jay, you weren't talking **** entirely so stop giving yourself a hard time

The bands you like are influenced by what the record labels decide is 'the next big thing', or if a band's face fits and they decide to give them an extra push. Not everyone knows how to find music or even has the inclination to try, others do. I consider myself to me in to my music, but I rely on XFM and Twitter to let me know what's up and coming. I'm rubbish at knowing anything about unsigned bands.

You were also right about the Arcade Fire set. It was quality, and I really enjoyed it, but they didn't smash it out of the park.

The only bit I would disagree with you is Glastonbury being corporate. What you see on the TV is, definitely, but the whole 'village' itself offers the least corporate experience of all the UK Festivals. No branded food stalls taking your money, only the Brothers Cider bus has any real drinks branding (and that's become an icon in itself), and the things you can do and see post midnight are just phenomenal. Yes the people that go this decade versus last have changed, but there's still plenty of people turning up with 30 or so Glastonbury caps.

I'm only piping up because you're being harsh on yourself, and I also get totally confused by the negativity towards Glastonbury from some of the older generation who say 'its not like it used to be'. No ****, the world isn't like it used to be, especially music. I just assume the older, older generation said the same thing 30 years ago when they'd stopped going.

Me too, apart from the bit about thinking that others may enjoy as I know that no one here likes whys I like. I don't understand why you apologise for having an opinion though. You might not have said if you were sober but you must have been thinking it. In vino veritas as they say. I'm sure ark wouldn't have taken offence and I would have been interested to read his impassioned response. I would say that along with football, music is the thing that ignites passion in most blokes and that's a good thing. People become as loyal to the bands they like as they do to their football team and there's nowt wrong with a healthy debate.

There's plenty of things I like, some of which I have mentioned on here and been shot down for it. There are lots of things about BFC that I am not happy with and this would seem the obvious place to air those views. Plenty of things I don't like, to varying degrees of importance and intensity, but mainly I'm going to comment on BFC on here and as things are not being done as I would like then the overall tone comes over negative. I'm a reight laugh in real life.

Never been to Glastonbury because generally the music there isn't my thing, there are occasional exceptions and I do like to watch it on telly. But the point of festivals is not generally the headliners anyway - it's the broad range and number of bands it gives you the chance to see that you might not otherwise have seen. It's the band that is on in the afternoon that maybe you've never heard of and that it gives them a chance to reach a much wider and larger audience than normal.
Didn't see it last night but I saw Arcade Fire on telly before (probably when they were at Glastonbury) and I enjoyed them, would have watched last night if I'd been home.

Sorry but just can't agree with this at all.

A lot of undiscovered bands stay that way because of a reluctance to change their style to fit in with what the masses want.

I'm a big fan of 'post rock' - nearly 100% instrumental. A lot of those kind of bands will always go under the radar because they will never appeal to the masses. But it certainly has nothing to do with them not being good enough.

There's a lot of bands that just didn't get the breaks but are as good as stuff that made it. Either radio didn't pick up on them, or the right record company exec didn't see them, or they didn't get the support tour that would have elevated them.
Of course there are planty as well that just weren't good enough but to dismiss a band on the basis that you've not heard of them is bizarre in the extreme.

Completely agree. One listen to the top 40 will prove the cream doesn't always rise to the top in the music industry

I remember you saying you like Russian Circles. Do you like Pelican or Scale The Summit? I'd also recommend Blotted Science and Behold The Arctopus if you don't know them but they're more metal than post rock so might not be to your tastes.

I do indeed, seeing Russian Circles at ArcTanGent festival in August, can't wait! I used to listen to a bit of Pelican and Isis, but don't know the others. Will have to check them out.

    You heard of Bossk?

Sorry, really feel there are more poor bands out there, that are playing pretty low grade stuff than there are undiscovered aces - even including the impressive instrumentalists. It doesn't sound likely the other way around.

Saw 65 days of static at Millennium Galleries in Sheff last year as part of Tramlines. Brilliant
