I really don’t want to knock the NHS but...

I suppose the only way that is ok is if she drives herself to work and is nursing patients with COVID19.

She does and she is, and the PPE is available and used appropriately.
However, she is working with colleagues who don’t have it, going home to her husband who doesn’t have it, who is then going to work with people who don’t have it.
Bossman’s point was that the NHS is brilliant, but certain elements are questionable, and I just wanted to reinforce that without hijacking his thread as he is clearly, and rightly, concerned for his niece.

At this point I don't think many (if any) symptomless people are being tested. I know some colleagues in the NHS have recently been tested though as they have family members showing symptoms (this is about keeping them at work if negative rather than a general concern however). I personally cannot have a test yet despite working on the wards and the fact that my wife is on the at 'severe' risk nhs register. We have covid patients now and 5 staff have tested positive on one ward over the last couple of days. So my wife hasn't left the house or seen her grandkids for weeks but I have to go to work and possibly fetch the virus back. Completely and utterly negates the shielding.

 

It was a perfectly fair and reasonable question.

 

I haven’t tried to apply online mate, but all workers in employment at this time driving to work etc. ( not just frontline) and their families can get tests if referred. Via 111. Verbally I’m led to believe. Don’t have to see anyone prior just fill a form in. to get the test. I haven’t gone through the process so am going on word of mouth. So if someone has gone through the procedure. Please explain if it is harder than I imagine. Sorry if I seem a little suspicious. But what happened with panic buying leads me to this conclusion. My views on NHS staff and families also care workers getting tested are well publicised on here.

Back at work today. Still no test and I've been dealing with staff and patients all morning. I'm hoping occy health can shed some light on this when I have my telephone appointment with them this afternoon.

 

The only testing site that I'm aware of for the whole of South Yorkshire is at Doncaster airport, if you don't drive was it possible to get it any farther away from civilisation?

This is the reality of the limited number of available tests though. People are falling ill and in some cases dying without getting anywhere near a test.

meanwhile some tw@ on the internet thinks it’s a splendid idea to gloat that his favoured political party have ‘succeeded’ in hitting a target.

what’s more - they then go into complain that they’re called names and try to play the victim.

I’d hoped that this awful situation would stop the flag waving and make people understand the important things in life take responsibility for their decisions. But instead they act like it’s all a game of ‘us and them’ where having a few bob and voting to keep more of it in their pockets doesn’t really hurt anyone

A common phrase in target driven organisations is ‘hitting the target and missing the point’ never has this been more apparent.

 

Just to let everyone know, my niece is home and resting, she wasn’t given the test as they believe it’s not necessary, they’re almost certain that it’s pneumonia on her left lung and thankfully no blood clot was found, they’ve gave her stronger antibiotics but told not to hesitate in going back to the hospital if she doesn’t improve, once again thank you for concerns and well wishes,

 

Great news that she's home, Roy. But not great that she has pneumonia.

 

Pneumonia is a killer in it's own right. Hope the antibiotics kick in. Best wishes.

And, just for balance it's very common to have 'walking pneumonia', which is not so lethal to most people.
