Well were lead to believe that these players weve brought in from the lower leagues are a gamble but there's confidence they can step up. I agree that it's a poorer level in league 1 this year and if we get it right with a consistent solid side we can go up. like most I'm nervous about the defence as losing the whole back line and keeper is gonna take time to get over....if we get that bit in place am confident..
Confidence in the club, manager, and team are what most fans lack on here, the more confidence you have in something then things look better, we'll smash this league, we've got a great squad of players an a decent enough manager to bring us success this season, keep the faith, get behind the club and enjoy the football, C,O,Y,R,
When a league is strong, with lots of good teams in it, you don't get 3 teams accumulating over 90 points, with one of those above 100. That's what happens when a league is weak, when the vast majority of teams offer little opposition and the better teams simply roll them over. There were many games in the second half of last season, when our players had found their feet in the division and Duff was able to field a settled side, that we didn't really need to select a defence. Bobby Thomas and Kitching played as secondary wing-backs much of the time as the only ambition of our opponents was to keep the score down. When a league is strong the points total for promotion and the play-offs is lower. The points are shared around much more evenly. You can't just turn up and fill your boots, you have to battle for every point and inevitably drop more points over a season. There's a chance the two automatically promoted teams this season will both end up with fewer points than we achieved last season, which only took us to 4th place. That doesn't mean it's a weaker league, it means the clubs outside the promotion places will offer more resistance and take a lot more points out of the top teams.
It's always been the case on the BBS that when Barnsley have a good season, some posters will claim it was the worse standard ever.
Another point, as an example, when we won promotion in 2015/16, some posters claimed during the campaign that was the worse Barnsley team they'd ever seen!
