I honestly don't see how that argument is relevant. Do wild horses seek out Aintree and jump Beechers Brook at will?

Is that word misnomer, Michael? :)

I'm not a fan of horse racing full stop.

But as with most things in this world - money talks.

    It's not an arguement - it's a question

I'm undecided. The horses look like they enjoy jumping. But I'm sure they don't enjoy falling over.

It is an argument put forward by many though, if not yourself. I think horses do enjoy jumping, but within their own natural parameters. As you say, horses may enjoy jumping but I'm sure they don't enjoy falling over and being killed, which is a key point lost on many advocates of the race. Now, I'm not anti racing. In fact I find it as dull as can be, but I am anti any living creature being 'sacrificed' in the name of sport.

When have you ever seen a horse run barrels, jump a course of jumps, or execute a perfect 20 metre circle spontaneously with no human prompting?

A horse may have qualities that makes them more suitable for a certain sport but that doesn't mean it likes it. A horse probably enjoys eating grass, hanging out with his pals and just being a horse..

    IMO.

Your grasp of the English language is far too good Monsieur C. :)

Heh, I find it a bit worrying that you're using the word "destroyed" there. You say it like these horses are just some inanimate objects/vehicles that can simply be replaced when they're 'broken' or 'destroyed'.

(Or is there some language barrier here and it's totally normal to talk about horses being "destroyed"? :p)

And he's also providing further evidence as to why horse racing is just a bit ****** up. It's a good job people had more compassion for Fabrice Muamba. After all, footballers are bred to run.

In how many spectator sports do we accept the death of humans so readily?

Not in civilised circles it isn't. The sport is living in the dark ages and that typifies it. Euthanised is the term favoured by us politically correct meddling do-gooders.
