A life size one of me wouldn't be very expensive. In fact I think we have some plasticine in the back of the cupboard.

A statue of that little boy of yours would be cheaper and would kill two birds with one stone

Are you talking about a brick in the wall behind the Ponty End or one of the plaques on the inside wall of the east stand lower tier concourse area?

Either way i'm sorry to hear about your partner, is it a common thing to have ashes scattered inside Oakwell or did you need any special permission for it?

I was referring to the plaques under the Eaststand which you called tacky & cheap. We do have a brick for him outside the Ponty End aswell. As he sat in the Eaststand Lower i was more than happy that the plaques were there. My partners plaque is not a brass one screwed onto the wall it is a plaque mounted onto a wooden frame and to me does not look cheap in anyway.

The club agreed that we could scatter his ashes around the pitch. They were fantastic and arranged for the clubs chaplin to get in touch with us.

I think he was referring to the surroundings not the plaque itself.

That wall could be made to look a lot better, then have all the plaques fixed to it. I know a few lads who have plaques on there.

I'd like us to start off smaller

And name a stand after Reverend Tiverton Preedy. I think this would be a very fitting memorial for the great man and at very little cost.

Not sure we can go around demanding statues which cost tens of thousands of pounds.

    Agreed.

The Rev. Tiverton Preedy Pontefract Road End
    The Tommy Taylor Stand (East)
    The Norman Rimmington Stand (North)
    The Jonny Steele Stand (West)

    That'd do for me.

    RE: no chance monkey

Ronni Jamal is even tinier and named partly after a true living legend.

In fact if I sellotaped her to a brick and told her to stand still because Boggy was coming that would work quite well for a while.

We'd lose money from stand sponsorship.

Although only one of our stands is sponsored. And the amount of money they pay to sponsor the stand far exceeds the cost of a statue. Just been reading Celtic statue cost £30k.

Yeah of course I was talking to the surroundings and not the actual plaques. The breeze block walls look a bit poor for a 'wall of rememberance' and could be made to look a lot better.

I bet there aren't many people who even know that the plaques are there which is fine for private and personal ones such as kanecats partner because she knows its there and so do her partners family and to be honest (no offence kanecat) they are the only people that need to know about it for it to serve it's purpose. For former players or people connected to the club I think that their plaques should be in a place where people notice them or can easily find them.

I'll be honest, I was only aware of their being two plaques under the east stand, one on the far wall near the north stand end and then one quite high up on a supporting pillar near the opposite (ponty) end which is my point really, i've been using that stand since it was built and had no idea any others existed when really I should shouldn't I.

Actually a little bit unrelated I think that the concourse area of the east stand is looking very dated and needs freshening up. The paintings on the wall from our promotion season have become badly damaged by water and some new ones could be commissioned from the college. The sign on the wall that used to say something like welcome to the east stand with the Admiral logo next to it has simply had the outdated information painted over leaving bit gaps on it, that too could be replaced and the same goes for the now badly faded light orange coca cola signs above the refreshment stands. No idea of the cost for these though

that's your challenge for the next home game then isn't it

I want photos of the kids and possibly yourself as statues in front of the stadium.

RE: I think he was referring to the surroundings not the plaque itself.

"Its a bit cheap really to put a plaque on a breeze block wall isn't it."

The above part of the post angered and upset me as i felt it was inferring that i was a cheapskate for putting a plaque there. That plaque means the world to me so it angers me greatly to anyone who dares to cheapen it.

I agree that the wall could be made to look better but as it's all that was available at the time it will do for me.

You can't lose money from stand sponsorship when three of our stands have never been sponsored in the history of the club.

Do you know how much CK Beckett paid to sponsor the Ponty? I don't so I've no idea if it exceeds the cost of a statue or not.

I don't think we'd lose any money to be honest, you could still sponsor the stands and have the company name all over it. 'Rev. Tiverton Preedy C.K Beckett stand' doesn't sound too bad. 'The Tommy Taylor Barnsley Chronicle stand'.

Wish they would brick the back of the East up

its bloody freezing. They could enclose the bars at the ends and have a sort of indoor bar area, maybe that would improve sales in milder climates too.

I agree that naming of the stands is something of a priority but I don't see the harm in wishing for a statue as well and I didn't mean for PC or the club to fund it either.

I apologise if i misunderstood your post but that was how it first came across to me. When i look at those plaques on that wall it is very sad as the majority are all lads that died young.

Official site said a substantial six figure sum...

when CK Beckett starting sponsoring. Thats why l pointed out that only one stand was sponsored, the other three are available to sponsor.

I've always thought the same though I think a window would be better than bricking it up, would be bloody dark in there if they did. Always thought that area has been completly under used and could be made better. A projector at each end showing sky sports every game and not only sometimes when people can be arsed to turn the TVs on as it is now would surely increase revenue from drink sales especially if like you say they were enclosed.

The betting area is far too big and a waste of space especially considering the tiny club shop next to it, swap these two over and fit out the new shop a little better and I reckon sales of merchandise would increase no end.

Encorporate the queuing system from the bars into the refreshment stands and more people might use them because I'm sure the crush and scramble puts a lot of people off at the moment.

This designing lark is a piece of piss

Doesn't sound bad? It sounds bloody awful. Everyone was laughing when we played at Bloomfield Road and they had the "Poundland Stanley Matthews Stand" and "The Something or other Bathrooms Stanley Mortensen Stand". What a way to honour club legends.
