Well you would hope that we had a board, like other clubs amazingly seem to have, that knew what they were doing when appointing managers. This doesnt seem to be the case so id like to see some kind of panel set up who have some kind of knowledge and insight, possibly ex players/manager, who could get the appointment right. Just an idea

The owner of a joinery company tells his joiner to put up a shelf with nails instead of screws. The joiner says the shelf won't stay up with nails. The owner tells him to do it anyway. He does, and the shelf falls off the wall. The owner then sacks him for poor performance. Not going to be a right successful company is it?.

Wait, I'm confused. You said a couple of times you've seen it happen - once was when you breached your contract.

Then you mention the second time above but say it was 'pushed under the carpet'. Was that for breach of contract too?

The owner of the joinery company supplies him with some of the best, top quality nails which should hold the shelf up with ease but the joiner isnt putting the nails in the right place to hold it up. Wouldnt be a good Owner to keep that joiner on for the good of the company would he?

What if the joiner came into the job knowing he would have to work with nails and not screws? How do we even know the joiner has said nails won't work?

Int there a saying abart poor workmen and tools?

I'd use no nails. From Wilkos.

Well I'm sure it wouldnt take an absolute genius to work out 2 or 3 blokes the fans of the club love and would respect their decisions so I'd imagine even Maurice and Barry could put together that panel.

Amazing how other clubs seem to do this sort of thing with ease but it would be way too hard for Barnsley.

So, let me get this right - you don't trust our board to appoint the right manager, however, you trust the board to appoint the panel that then recommends back to that board who to appoint as manager?

What if the joiner came in being told he'd get some screws early on but some nails only to find out he gets nails whilst he's here? Then when the nails don't work the owner recognises it but the screws are sold out until January so we find some knocking about in the garage & then ask him to wait until January so there's a little bit of collective responsibility in them shelves being absolutely ***** and falling down?

Or he should just buy a cabinet instead.

So the owner keeps telling the joiners he appoints the best quality nails he's provided will work. Having sacked all the joiners because the shelves still keep falling off at what point does he realise the nails don't work.

Luckily, it seems the answer is this January when the hardware shop reopens.

I don't know the details it was the marketing manager who did the long walk that time not me. Was mine breach of contract when I was going to resign anyway before doing anything seriously? At the time of the incident I was conducting my own market research which the company got wind of, hadn't done anything more, anyway I had had a big argument with the MD a few days earlier about company policy so that didn't help I guess. Coincidentally it was a British company in South Africa. You may know them if you have a mining background, Gullick Mining head office in Wigan then if they still exist, made their name in hydraulic chocks.

So, back to the original point - you say that in your World of work if someone is under performing they would be marched out of the building with no compensation. You're saying you've seen that once in your entire working life and even that instance you can't guarantee was because of poor performance. Is that right?

Within your career then you've either worked with an unbelievable group of top performing, highly motivated & quite amazingly adept professionals or, which I think is more likely, you're talking b.llocks, Mr Dubai.

I think I've got this. Is Lee Johnson the nails or the screws? Who's the shelf? Barry Taylor's the biscuit barrel, obviously.

It wouldnt take anyone with half a brain to realise 3 people with connections to the club and more experience in football matters than our board would it. I could appoint it, you maybe could, im sure Maurice n Barry could come up with very similar names. Isnt hard is it.
