I remember coming out of an away game (possibly the famous Friday night at Fulham) and their fans asking us about him, they thought he was the best young player ever.
That volley your on about is for me the greatest goal I've ever seen. If I remember right we had a corner about 6 minutes into injury time. ( McNally had booked loads of players in last ten minutes) 2 minutes after Cardiff equalized. Ground nearly emptied. Banksy dropped back to near the centre circle for any breakaway. Ball got headed out from the corner, bounced once. He hit it on the half volley. Everyone in the area moved out of the way for fear of being hit. Ball would have finished up on Sheffield Rd if net hadn't have been in the way. That's the way I saw it anyway. Tried to find any footage of it. But alas to no avail.
Think Lone Striker picked the best ones but I remember one against Grimsby when Nigel Batch raced off his line expecting a low shot like the Fowls one and Banks smashed it over his head, and one away at Orient where the ball just lifted at the last moment to beat the keeper. The first one against RUFC in his hat-trick is good too, the way he controlled the shot but still hit it with such power. Those that criticised him didn’t like his tackling I think.
