Hearing this makes me love my club all the more. In over 60 years of watching them I’ve seen some great players, but no team better than the one Ian was a part of.
He talked about the great players in that team, said if Glavin got the ball and was clear he and McCarthy would turn and get ready for the kick off as he never missed, complimented the Fleetwood goal and said we had Banks for those, briefly mentioned Aylott and Parker, said Clarke was a strict disciplinarian and quite a few of them were fined for misdemeanours, that McCarthy would come and win headers on Evans’ side and he’d tell him to get back and leave them to him. . Think that was pretty much it (plus the stand comment mentioned elsewhere).
That's one thing I 'regret' as well, that there weren't any Play offs in those days (in season '81). Had it come down to the intense Semi final two legs and a first ever Wembley Final, I really think we were capable of beating anybody and winning promotion. I also thought the same as well by the way in season '90, if we had got into the Play offs (like we should have done, and thought we had!).
