Re: What folk seem to be missing I spoke to the don a few weeks ago about pay as you earn advertising and even offered to speak to companys on the clubs behalf for him but he just sounded daft so i walked away, to be honest i think the club as been shafted by a marketing agent and the club is not in control of the sales side of things
Re: What folk seem to be missing As far as i'm aware that's not true. The club isn't in charge of the clubshop but they are in charge of their own sponsorhip and advertising and are also able to sell products online on facebook.
Re: What folk seem to be missing Unfortunately the common sense in that post will fall on deaf ears. Clubs like chesterfield are proactive in how they conduct their business. They employ someone who is solely in charge of marketing not employing one person and pigeon holing them into a number of different roles. They have to do this as they are a smaller club than the majority of its neighbours. In the same catchment area they have both Sheffield clubs, derby, forest plus a number of lower leagues teams such Mansfield alfreton etc. The match day expirence at the b2b is a different world to that at oak well. I can't remember being sat at half time shaking like a shitting dog in the concourse there. The catering is a different level. The prices last season were cheaper. The beer was cheaper and it was draught, cheer infect than a number of town centre pubs in Barnsley not slightly chilled cans fresh from Asda.
Re: What folk seem to be missing Correct. Oakwell upcoming events: 0 (as far as I can see advertised anyway) B2net upcoming events: darts evening, annie lennox tribute night, whitney houston tribute night, 90s and noughties music night, michael jackson tribute night, motown and sole night, boyzaloud night, 70s diva night, abba/beegees night. Some people know how to make money, some don't. Simple as that.
Re: What folk seem to be missing can see where your coming from and its very commendable . but tbh they can't sustain those sort of nights at metrodome when they used to have em so unfortuanately can't see it coming off at oakwell
Re: What folk seem to be missing Many other stadiums manage to sustain them and make money from them. Even the much smaller stadium a few miles down the road is managing to have events.
Re: What folk seem to be missing could give it a try but tbh i don't think they're big money making events by time overheads and everybody's been paid. thats why metrodome don't have so many. was it last year they had to cancel pantomime. think only charity events were turning owt over and t5hen it weren't a kings ransom.
The Lamproom has run quite a number of Of football related 'An Evening With' over the past few years eg. Mick McCarthy, Danny Wilson, Ronnie Glavin, John Hendrie, Neil Redfearn to name just a few. There's one with Bobby Hassell in November. These evenings are always popular and quickly sell out. If the Lamproom can organise them, why can't the club?
Re: The Lamproom has run quite a number of and I don't mean a lack of effort from those who actually do work either, I mean from the top. Maybe its a lack of vision or lack of ability but one thing is clear and that is that something is lacking and until that changes then this club of ours will stay in decline until one day sadly the club will cease to exist.
Re: The Lamproom has run quite a number of those are the sort of events the club should be running whether is a moneymaker or not imo. to keep interest and feed its customers. but tribute nights etc could be a bit awkward. but i'd say give it a go you never know, its only my opinion.
Re: Quite possibly We could and we should in my opinion. There shouldnt be a single day of the year where there isn't some form of event going on at Oakwell whether that be something during the day or at night. And I don't mean things like a company hiring out a room for a conference, I mean a proper event where members of the public can go along and spend money.
thats what i meant the club should be holding football related entertainment in its facilities to keep the fans happy.
